Move bowl games to August.

With the changing landscape of college football, this is one change that makes sense to me. Hve your 16 team playoff in December/January. But, don't align them with any bowl games.
Make the bowl games Week Zero games for the next year. Play them from the middle of August thru Labor Day weekend. Have the minor bowls early and then culminate with the major bowls on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Labor Day). Make Labor Day what we now call New Year's Day. Play the Rose, Sugar and Orange Bowls on Monday. Play the Fiesta, Peach and Cotton on Sunday. Play 3 or 4 or 5 games on Saturday.
There is no NFL games on Labor Day weekend. College football could "own the weekend." What a great way to kick off the season.
Just an idea that I think is at least worthy of consideration.

Lots of seniors would miss a game they earned. 12 teams is too many. 6-8 is plenty if 6 2 teams get a bye. All games bowls do away with home field.

Just move them to April after Spring practice. Could be in place of the current Spring games. Would count as real games and end (most) opt outs and fill the stadiums with fans eager to see what the Fall might actually look like.

of the SEC/ACC or ACC/Big10 challenge would be an absolute barnburner way to start the season. Line them up top to bottom, and have it be the opening week's slate.
Could you imagine the hype for the opening of the season?

Yes to this. Opening weekend should be these big games and do them rotating in the home stadiums just like bball. Part of the fun/uniqueness of college football is seeing the traditions at other places. TX was super neat, as was ND and looking forward to LSU.
Beyond that, the spring game should be played against and fcs opponent and then we can remove that game from everyone’s fall slate. It gives you a real preseason game, doesn’t count against your record, and you have time to recover from any injuries that might occur. It gives the fcs team their program survival check.

.... ending up with a SuperLeague, you might end up with something like you are talking about. SEC/B1G challenge.
Take the standings from 2027 and match them up on Labor Day weekend of 2028. SEC champ vs B1G champ SEC 2 vs B1G 2 Etc.

The same hype as that is currently ongoing with the ACC in current bowl games? It might not get many people excited watching the ACC not fare so well in this so called "challenge".

That’s actually a good idea. I haven’t watched more than a quarter of any bowl game this year. That used to not be the case. I particularly like what you said about Labor Day weekend.

Without a season's worth of games, how do you decide who to put in the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Peach Bowl, etc.?

Make the Labor Day games be based on the previous year's rankings.
Take the 2027 season and make the 2028 games be match ups of those teams. SEC champ vs B1G champ SEC 2 vs B1G 2 Etc.

Make them scrimmages. Have a competitive half and the rest of the game a true scrimmage. Do it in August before the season. I’d be 100% ok with it. Allows the kids to enjoy the experience. Gets coaches an opportunity to have a scrimmage.

Sponsors pay tens of millions for the major games. Seems doubful they're going to pony up big bucks for a scrimmage.

I prefer making the bowl games playoff games, including the conference championship games. Play the power 5 conference championships and 3 other games involving the 6 highest ranked teams not playing in conference championship games on the first or second weekend in December. These would be bowl games and they would be playoff games so they become win or go home. The winners of these 8 games go to the next round of playoff bowl games. After Christmas there would be a weekend with 4 playoff bowl games then the semifinal bowl games and then the national championship bowl game could be played in early January. The games could be rotated through the various bowls like the 4 team playoff was done. This would allow 15 bowl games to participate in the playoffs each year. If teams not making the playoffs want to play in lower tier bowls they still can. That would still give players from those teams opportunities to try out for the portal.

The fate of the bowl games is interesting. The majority still only exist because ESPN owns the broadcast rights and needs content for December. They are a made for tv sports product. If they figure out different content that brings acceptable ratings the minor bowl games are toast in a heartbeat. With all the opt outs, the composition of the teams are young players. That’s why the redshirt rule was changed. The idea that it’s a reward for seniors after a successful season ended decades ago.
Now the New Years Six is a different dilemma. The Fiesta and Orange are struggling. The CFP was a lifeline for these bowl games. The sacred idea that they have to be played around Jan 1st has now been wiped out with the 12 team playoff. In reality, the Rose Bowl is the only one that has attempted to protect it’s connection to New Years with the parade.
Several ideas I think will become reality. FCS games become the replacement for Spring games to generate stronger fan interest (revenue). Five of the New Years Six bowl games become Week Zero neutral site games. Heck the Peach Bowl has basically been doing that for years. Rose Bowl becomes the NC game again if they can figure out the playoff structure and the December playoff calendar.
Besides the bowl games, there’s so much going on in December that needs to get cleaned up (TP window, conference championship games, Army/Navy game, HS recruiting dates, etc). Did you know that Army and Navy are attempting to get permission to play 13 regular season games just because they refuse to move their rivalry game to an earlier date? All because they are upset about loss of consideration for the playoffs. They talk about player safety and then come up with an extra game as a solution?

Minor bowls and ESPN.

You are correct. Those bowls exist because they are cheap programming for ESPN. Now, in my idea you take the last two weeks of August and you give ESPN (and other networks) cheap programming then.
What if there were 15 "minor bowls" played on the 3rd Saturday in August and 15 "minor bowls" played on the 4th Saturday in August? Wouldn't those 30 games get at least as much viewership as playing them all through December?
I gotta believe GT playing FSU in week zero got a whole lot more viewership than the Bahamas Bowl did whenever it was played.
College football fans are ready for football in August. Give it to them.

First things first. Fix the transfer portal and NIL. Players must sign contracts with the NIL or School. These are professional players and need to operate like the NFL. Also allow players to be traded in the offseason.

I disagree A lot of the upperclassmen that would want to play wouldn’t be able to
But let’s keep thinking outside the box and I’m sure with our collective brains we can come up with something

Upper classmen are upper Lassen in August same as in Dec or Jan. The first year may eliminate some, but thereafter all get a shot in Aug. I love the idea of starting the season with bowl games.
