Mickey's answer to today's first email nails it on Big12:

Jun 1, 2012, 12:18 PM

A decision to go to teh Big12 will not be based on fans travelling to games, and not even based on a $3 million a year increase. The decision will be based on where we will be positioned regarding playoff berths, playoff money, and on the inside vs outside looking in in the future of college football.

Take a look at his answer, it makes a lot of sense and is accurate.

#1 it is about winning all your games. Got to play the best teams.

recruiting for a B12 team would be better.

we are at disadvantage being in the ACC.

ACC champs but not in the top five.

We lost three games BEFORE the OB. That's why we weren't in the top five. We played our way out championship talk.

Do you really think that if we were undefeated we would miss

Jun 1, 2012, 1:17 PM [ in reply to Re: Mickey's answer to today's first email nails it on Big12: ]

out on a 4 team playoff?

The only undefeated BCS schools to ever miss out on the championship game are Auburn and Cincy. Both played jokes of out of conference games.

Now, with that in mind, its more important to NOT have that 9th ACC game.

Re: Do you really think that if we were undefeated we would miss

Jun 1, 2012, 1:21 PM

But that's the thing a 2 loss SEC team could get in, a 1 loss PAC, big or 12 team could get in and maybe 2 losses as well. ACC would have to be undefeated. That's a problem.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe...

Jun 1, 2012, 1:37 PM

I think a 1 loss Clemson, FSU, Miami, or VT would get in over a 2 loss SEC school.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our 1-loss to Georgia Tech would've put us at #4 last

Jun 1, 2012, 1:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Do you really think that if we were undefeated we would miss ]

year, your repeated argument is repeatedly proved invalid.

Not true. If Clemson or FSU had lost only one game last year

Jun 1, 2012, 1:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Do you really think that if we were undefeated we would miss ]

one of us would have been in. VT with one loss probably not because they had one of the easiest schedules in the country.

Jun 1, 2012, 12:52 PM

I think that is the general view of most Tiger fans.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why will we be on the outside looking in? Why wouldn't we

Jun 1, 2012, 1:39 PM

be as well positioned as the Big 12? Be specific.

If FSU had beaten Oklahom, Wake, and UVA last year, and we had beaten State and USC, we'd have both finished higher than Oklahoma State based on our OOC wins, imo. FSU would have for sure.

MP just hates the ACC and that's what's driving much of this from many of our fans. He's insecure about Clemson's place in the ACC and feels that every move that doesn't work in our favor is anti-Clemson.

Honestly, it's exhausting. It's an indefensible

Jun 1, 2012, 1:44 PM

argument and yet it's repeated to the point that it's considered fact here.

If the ACC stays intact, we are fine.

No ACC team has ever been left at home in favor of a team with more loses from another conference.

Last year it was the ACC that sent an at-large team to the BCS, NOT the Big 12.

Clemson went from unranked to #5 in the country last year playing against a down ACC.

Honestly, quoting Mickey is like quoting Wookie. Just some guy's opinion.

The media is already referring to the Big4 conferencfes. How

Jun 1, 2012, 2:03 PM

is that going to affect recruiting. I'm with you in that no way a conference with VT, Miami, FSU, Clemson, GT, UNC, NC St, etc should be considered a lower level, but it has already started and will get worse. Eventually we will recruit as such. And you are right constantly defending a conference is exhausting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Come on, 81. Don't put words in my mouth.

Jun 1, 2012, 2:19 PM

Constantly refuting clearly flawed and indefensible arguments that are spouted off like they are fact is exhausting.

Fair enough, my words then, and constantly having to

Jun 1, 2012, 5:03 PM

defend the fact that the ACC is legit will be exhausting over the next 50 years. Understand this, I am not an automatic go to the ACC, but that ACC has to have equal access to playoff and can not be considered a level below. There has to be a Big 5 conference understanding and not a Big4. So far, that it appears the ACC is going to be on the outside looking in.

it will not. The Big 12(10) will turn into sewage before

long. Ok St. Baylor et al are not going to have those type seasons every year. Texas and Oklahoma are underachievers as of late.

That conference is still a dead conference walking. They aren't expanding because no one except Louisville wants in.

Re: it will not. The Big 12(10) will turn into sewage before

Yet the dead conference walking is about to get a contract that is bigger than the SECs, signed a long term commitment with the SEC for it's champions/runner-ups to play in a bowl they own, and signed a 6 (soon to be 13) year GOR.

Re: it will not. The Big 12(10) will turn into sewage before

Meant that to read contract bigger than ACCs.

Jun 1, 2012, 5:52 PM [ in reply to Honestly, it's exhausting. It's an indefensible ]

I think you are asduming they are gonna keep this thing open to all conferences. I think there is a good chance you will eventually see a playoff involving only four conferences. If ncaa sanctions it thats all well and good. If ncaa doesnt i think you may see the big 4 form their own regulating body. They are not bound to the ncaa. Going undefeated in acc will not help at all if acc isnt even involved in playoff.

The ACC is a joke in the BCS and our next best bowl tie-in

Jun 1, 2012, 6:34 PM [ in reply to Honestly, it's exhausting. It's an indefensible ]

is the Peach Bowl. You ACC pumpers are deluding yourselves. If they use the RPI or include "strength of schedule" in determining the 4 playoff teams, you won't see an ACC team in the playoffs until it gets expanded to 8 games. It is rare that an ACC team finished in the top 4 before bowl selections.

Good question, but you can ask the national media and

Jun 1, 2012, 2:00 PM [ in reply to Why will we be on the outside looking in? Why wouldn't we ]

other conferences that. The national media has already dubbed the Big10, Big12, Pac12, and SEC the Big4 conferences. That perception alone is unacceptable regarding recruiting and coverage. Those conferences are already behaving as if there is a Big4 and not a Big5. Perception is everything when you're trying to recruit, get votes in the polls, get selected to the playoff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The "national media" is everyone in the media. The ACC

Jun 1, 2012, 2:08 PM

sent an at large to a BCS Bowl last year. The Big 12 didn't.

Link to people in the "nationl media" who put the PAC 12 and Big Ten in with the other two.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Since the SEC and BIG12 signed their bowl deal a couple

Jun 1, 2012, 4:59 PM

of weeks ago, multiple outlets referred to it as a game changer. ESPN and CBS are two that used the exact term "Big 4 conferences". Don'
t have time to dredge up a link right now, but I will in the next few days. Also CSS in Atlanta, Mr. SEC, Chuck Oliver, are all regional media in the south and they have used the phrase also.

Re: Why will we be on the outside looking in? Why wouldn't we

Jun 1, 2012, 2:09 PM [ in reply to Why will we be on the outside looking in? Why wouldn't we ]

The crowd that has repeatedly said for so long that they want other ACC teams to lose EVERY game now complains of a weak conference. You can't have it both ways.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You know that is a great point

Jun 1, 2012, 8:23 PM

people rag sec fans for chanting "SEC" because they think it strange to brag about a conference but these are usually the same people making the most noise about getting out of the "embarrassing" ACC. Hypocritical really.

The ACC is not likely to ever be a "football" conference on par with the SEC - too many private schools - but the ACC will likely be around a lot longer than the Big 12ish.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You know that is a great point

Jun 1, 2012, 11:23 PM

I agree....when people say ACC they will also think of BEC, WAC, MWC, MAC, and CUSA......exactly the company I wanna be associated with
