“One of the states we won — Wisconsin — I didn’t realize this until fairly recently, that was the one state that Ronald Reagan didn’t win when he ran the board his second time,” Trump said during a press conference after the NATO Summit in Brussels.
“He didn’t win Wisconsin and we won Wisconsin,” he added.
This is the third time that Trump has reiterated the incorrect statement.
Reagan won the state in both 1980 and 1984. Minnesota was the only state he didn’t secure during the 1984 election.

visited Ohio 10 times, PA 10 times, Michigan 10 times, Nevada 10 times, VA 10 times, NC 7 times = 57.
I think it’s above your head or something.

As in it’s not enough to portray him as an idiot, he must specificslly be deceitful.
Clearly his comment is incorrect, but I would just say he’s wrong, not that he’s lying.

At what point does he stop being wrong and start lying? I figure you can be wrong once, but this is an easily verifiable fact, and he keeps "getting it wrong". It does fit in nicely with his gaslighting strategy though.

the President’s ear is correcting him or he can’t seem to remember the correction. Which, you think is a defense of Trump, but actually is far more damning. But just seems more likely than a willful deception about something that gains him nothing and is easily fact-checked.
Besides, everyone who was around knows that Mondale has not carried Minnesota because it was his home state...and even then, the split was less than 1%.
Mondale also carried DC, I believe.

He says it for effect and moves on, sort of like a newspaper putting something on the front page and then a few days later printing a retraction. No one cares about the retraction.

That's still pretty bad, but not necessarily lying. Like you said, he just says stuff if it sounds good for him, but he's so low knowledge that it's frequently garbled in some way.
A lot of the stuff he says has some inkling of truth, which leads the commentary on what he's said to follow the same ###### every time: lots of people pile on pointing out how misleading what Trump has said is; others point out that the criticism is overblown, and that actually there's some sort of fundamental truth to what he said; we all forget what we were talking about to begin with.
