Maybe UPS Job is Better

than wasting $150,000 plus and 4 yrs at some college/university that is going to brainwash your kids. $170,000 a year including benefits may be a better career option.
The UPS driver says that salary figure is exaggerated but then admits that with bennies it is accurate and says if he changed jobs, he would have to get a job paying $170,000 to equal the pay at UPS.

One of my Sunday morning golfing buddies has drove for 15 +years . Pays good but you will absolutely earn your money this time of year. FedEx has AC in their trucks, UPS doesn’t and temps rise to above 120 degrees in the back of those trucks where you spend a lot of time. There are quite a few heat related deaths of UPS workers which was recently used during negotiations

My neighbor drives for UPS. She says straight white men have no chance there. She said she has it made because she is a lesbian woman.

Delivery jobs will start being replaced by self driving vans with AI robots soon, especially at those salaries.

Lots of jobs are going to be replaced by self diving vehicles, AI and Robotics. Surgeons in California or anywhere in the USA or the world, will be able to do robotic remote surgery on you in most any hospital you choose in the US. I have had laparoscopic robotic surgery and any time it is available over regular surgery, I will choose it.
I am invested in several technology companies and follow them closely. What is on the horizon in AI is amazing. And that may just be the tip of the ice burg. Who knows where it will ultimately lead.

"Who knows where it will ultimately lead."
Sounds like AI will ultimately lead to a lot of American unemployment.

We'll be lucky if mass unemployment is the worst of it. Hopefully it doesn't decide to kill us all one day.

Amazon is only paying part time and around $20 an hour. Post office pays &45 to deliver Amazon. Know that for a fact.

Maybe it's better for some people

but college is probably a better choice for many others. Plenty of careers out there that'll have you making well over $170k in total compensation without having to schlep packages around all day for the rest of your working life.

Generally when we talk about how much people make

we don't include the value of their benefits, so it's clear that someone wants to make it seem like these guys are going to be getting paid more than they actually will be. Their benefits package will be worth about $50k. Full-time UPS drivers will be making just over $100k on average by the end of their new contract, assuming they work 40 hours/week.

I agree, the $170k was stated to get a reaction from the public and sone folks jumped all over it without a second thought.

I went right into the work force and even though I did get accepted I was not able to attend Clemson as I had planned. but I have definitely been blessed. I know people my age still paying back student loans. My parents did not have it like some people so I would have been plenty in the hole when I got finished.

I used to work for UPS and have several friends that still do. I would urge any young person that doesn't want to attend college, to go there straight out of high school. It's not for a lazy person but after you pay your dues you will have a nice life and the option to retire earlier than most.

With the cost of colleges now and student loan

absurdity...the conversations at home have to take place and kids need to be better educated on finances before heading out on their own or to college. And my personal opinion is parents should remain involved as a mentor during those younger career years for their. Make sure they dont go down a slippery slope bc its so easy to do now.
As for college, their needs to be complete clarity as to why you want to go and what the plan/expectation is.

my former driver had so many back problems and hernia surgeries. He retired earlier this year about the same time as I did, but he was a broken man, and I feel great. Super nice guy, but working for UPS for 30+ years as a driver just about killed him.
