Just a quick PSA. If you fish, and have a power pole on your

boath with a remote control switch.THROW THAT SWITCH AWAY! I had just lost the biggest fish I have had on in a while, and was trying to scoot across a big section of Lake Russell full of big trees just under the water before dark to hit one more good spot,so I trimmed up my big motor and was idling across. Suddenly, I came to a stop and my boat was pulled backward. I immediately thought my Mercury and run across a big limb, so I shut it down, and when I looked back I was astounded to see that my Power Pole had 100 % deployed and it was wedged deep under the water. Using my trolling motor I tried to pull free to no avail. Now, it was getting dark! So, I pulled out my wrenches and started to try and remomve the 5 bolts attaching it to the back of my boat. This is VERY hard to do, by yourself, in50 feet of water, after tying braid to your tools so that if you drop one,it is not lost to the deep blue yonder. Anyway, I got the first two off, but the last two, were deeper in the water and they were going to be a real pain to get off,AND YES,I WAS GOING TO CUT THE CABLE ON A 1500.00 POLE and leave it. But, IT swas about to get completel dark, so I decided to fire up the big motor, give it as much gas as I thought safe, and take my chances. Well sirs, at about 30 percent power it pulled loose and I tidied up my mess to run back to the landing. The moral of the story, is that the remote switch will be tossed. I can only imagine what could happen if I was running down the lake at full speed and that sucker deployed!
Ole Spud dodged a bullet on that one.

Hate it when that happens. Just remember... there's always a bigger fish.

My bass boat has been in the garage for two years now since I discovered kayak fishing. Dealing with all that power equipment just got to be too much of a hassle. Catch more fish now too.

They also make them for kayaks which I have long thought could also be slightly dangerous in certain situations. I think I will just stick with my 12 ft fiberglass stakeout pole after this story lol.

Hey SPuD..many of us have had crazy dangerous things like this happen

but for ONE: we didn’t tell a soul (nor less Tigernet)..
and TWO: our wives or relatives would have said “I told you so!”
Sounded very concerning & dangerous too especially at night!
So, maybe do what I have thought about doing when out boating..carry a sleeping bag, snacks & portal potti just in case! LOL
Welcome Home good Buddy!

and when I am on the Wando in the summer I have a ton of water....just in case..I read a story last year about a fisherman on Okeechobee who succumbed to the heat in 4 hours. I assumed two things, one he had no water, and two, he was overweight and out of shape.
