the point that I'm willing to embrace socialism. We've been down this road before. I don't look to the presidency for moral guidance affirmation of my personal beliefs. I vote based on who will lower my taxes, put conservative textualist on the Court, and avoid foreign wars.
Trump has checked those boxes more than any president in my lifetime.
no butthurt out of me on this. He won't be convicted in the senate and even the Democrats won't have unanimous support in the house. He's likely to win reelection.

You defend him at every turn, you did it well before he was elected, and your posts about him drip of adoration. And you just overreacted to a poll. Of people's opinions. On Fox.
If you didn't adore him, you wouldn't have responded the way you did.
Also, Trump didn't lower your taxes. Congress did.

The hysteria on the left regarding Trump has resulted in an impeachment effort in search of impeachable charges. There's been a desire to impeach him from day one and, to that end, there's been a nonstop effort to find charges - no matter how specious.
You and others of your tribe engage in the fallacious argument that this impeachment has somehow organically grown from Trumps supposed crimes when the opposite is true. its more like "we don't like him now lets find something to hang him with." With time running out before the 2020 election, these charges were your tribe's last best hope of impeachment after the Mueller Report turned out to be a dud.

Hate to tell you this, but it's not just the left who opposes him. It's the average independent moderate. It's sensible conservatives. The ones who still cling to him are the off-their-rocker weird religious right segment and the special group that craves an authoritarian.
My tribe? Alex, honestly, man. I've always been more conservative than you. I mean, you don't even really support a free market. And for someone who I thought could spot a corrupt president and demand better, well, it's a little disappointing.

socialist party.
there is no judge, anywhere in the country, better equipped to carry on Justice Scalia's legacy than Justice Goresuch. He's a near perfect jurist, IMO. Kavanaugh is more of an Alito type conservative but I'm ok with that too. The next president will likely replace Gisburg, Thomas, and, possibly, Breyer. I have extreme confidence Trump will pack the bench for the next 40 years.
the tax cut (which no democrat president would have signed) personally benefited me mightily. It also has helped to sustain the longest peacetime expansion in the history of the world.
Trump is more opposed to foreign entanglements than any president since Carter.
In three years, with a partially divided congress, thats not too shabby.

Good. Cool. Cause I don't. But I didn't call myself conservative. I called myself more conservative than you.

I didn't really have a problem with Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. I did have a problem with what the Senate did when Obama tried to replace a justice. That was corrupt.
Trump likely won't get the chance to replace the names you mentioned.
the tax cut (which no democrat president would have signed) personally benefited me mightily. It also has helped to sustain the longest peacetime expansion in the history of the world.
Cool. Great. The long term effects are yet to be seen.
Trump is more opposed to foreign entanglements than any president since Carter.
I have applauded how he has kept us out of wars, but his foreign diplomacy is not to be lauded.

Despite all that, he hasn't accomplished much.

There are plenty of news sources...
Dec 16, 2019, 9:02 AM

Very reputable ones, that publish excellent information--especially good local journalism in the places it exists.
The problem we have is that the most consumed news sources--cable TV--do exactly what you say: push opinion. Because they've realized that's what makes money, unfortunately. That, and it's the opinionated headlines that get the clicks online.
Taking time to look for good sources and take them in their entirety yields good information.
Here's what I don't get when I hear people say there are no media sources that can be trusted, yet they claim they are informed about what's going on in the world. Where are they getting their information?

I cite Fox because that's the only major source most Trump supporters here will believe. Although they still cast doubt on it. Most people nowadays don't want to consider any information that goes against what they already believe.

See, the difference there is that you have constantly, every day on here, supported him and defended him. Not once have you seen me call for any socialist policies.
That binary thinking is the hallmark of the Party of Trump.
It's regressive tribalism...and it's the overheated rhetoric of Fox News and the so-called "conservative media" - basically, State TV masquerading as "news" that somehow managed to convince people that it was OK to get news with the spin you like and still call it "news" - that's creating that binary.
They really have convinced their viewers that if you're not with Trump and just insanely tribal, you're a socialist. There's zero room for debate or moderation gray area in their fact-free Brave New World.
Rupert Murdoch led that charge, but unfortunately it's just way too late to stick a stake in that old vampire's heart or banish him back to Australia or the UK because there's Sinclair and OANN waiting to pick up the pieces, and it's backed and amplified by the Alt-Right blogosphere. (And of course, the Russian troll factories, which you can barely tell from the actual American-based Alt-Right sites anymore, which is more than a bit disgusting.) There's zero regulation and zero accountability to fact with any of them...and so they're saying what they want and pretty much shouting down the truth, almost in real-time.
Most of their viewers are just normal folks, they're just not real...sophisticated. And they're being re-programmed and radicalized right in front of our eyes. It's more than a bit scary to watch.
When did Fox News become more powerful in reality than the Senate? Because right now...it is..

The binary thinking is a national issue, not some “hallmark of the Party of Trump”.
Sure there are people who think Trump opponents are all socialists.
Similarly there are people who think that:
People with MAGA hats deserve a bike lock to the head. People against abortion hate women. People who think bathrooms should correspond to birth sex are just bigots. If you vote any way other than straight-ballot Democrat, you’re a redneck racist Etc, etc, etc....
There’s nothing “regressive” about it at all. Tribalism and associated stereotypes have been around forever. The irony is that you just made your own point by taking a fairly universal trait and “weaponizing” it by (rather tribally) selectively using it against a group you disagree with.

Oh, the extreme left is every bit as tribal and polarized, and yes, they say all that...which frankly makes me bristle. Go read through some of the material Antifa passes out, or go read some of the diatribes being unleashed against the likes of Pete Buttigieg right now because he dares to be centrist and moderate and not storm the bastion and Fight the Man like the Bernie Bros and Warrenites want to do.
I am not a Democrat, by the way, and I can't see a way that I will ever be one. I'm still technically registered Republican though I will at some point re-register as "independent" because I truly have moved to the No Tribe group at the moment.

Thinking someone is a socialist because of the way they vote is a step forward from thinking someone is dumb because of the color of their skin. People are getting far more sophisticated with their stereotypes.
Technically, we're advancing. Politics as we know it are just being shot to sh#t as the metamorphosis occurs.
