Marta

Aug 26, 2012, 8:38 PM

Coming from the upstate, where is the best place to get on the Marta to get to the Ga. Dome?

14th and peach tree as a nice Parking deck across the street from the station.

Thanks

I don't recommend Marta for games. Getting out takes forever***

I always use the North Springs station. It's new and in a nice neighborhood, it has twice as many spots than any other station, and it's far enough away that you can actually get a seat. Just my two cents, but I live 20 miles north of ATL.

How about coming down 85? same one?***

Aug 26, 2012, 9:06 PM

Yeah, you would just get on 285 and go north on 400, pretty easy. Shouldn't be much traffic going north anyway, and like like I said, I like the station.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's way out of the way for someone coming down 85

Aug 26, 2012, 9:10 PM

They will pass like 5 stations on their way AWAY from the city.

First station you can hit coming down 85 is Doravile. Chambee is the next and that might alleviate a little of the crowd at Doraville.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg2012_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks. I think we've used Doraville before.***

Don't be dramatic, it's not that far out of the way. I also pass 3/4 stations on the way to North springs, but when Its a busy weekend, (peachtree road race, concert, etc) I choose this station because you are assured a parking spot and a seat. I don't like being sardined in the train.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It so happens I live 15 mins from this station and use it

Aug 26, 2012, 10:15 PM

often.

I just think its bad advice. At least 15 minutes out of the way and multiple stations are passed.

Take the Ga. Rt 20 (Buford / Lawrenceville)exit off 85 (I think the exit # is 115). Take 20 west to ####### where you take Ga 400 South. There is an exit off of 400 south directly into the North Springs MARTA station.

Re: How about coming down 85? same one?***

Aug 26, 2012, 9:19 PM

they are correct, it's exit 115 off 85 (at the Mall of GA)...you will travel about 15 mile west to get to hwy 400 (traffic could be bad here). then travel south on 400 for another (approx) 15 miles.

you can map it out that way to see if it's worth it

DO NOT

Aug 26, 2012, 9:07 PM

Take Marta. Takes longer to get back to your car than the length of the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: DO NOT

Aug 26, 2012, 9:23 PM

So, if I'm staying in Dunwoody, 2 blocks from a Marta station, how else would I get to the Dome - and faster?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Always take MARTA to the game and if it takes you 3 hours

Aug 26, 2012, 9:31 PM [ in reply to DO NOT ]

to get back to your car you must be walking. Just buy a return token.

Re: Always take MARTA to the game and if it takes you 3 hours

Aug 26, 2012, 9:34 PM

Thanks -

I guess the length of time it takes to get back to the car just might be proportionate to the amount of alcohol consumed before, during and after the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably so.***

If you are traveling from the Upstate, Doraville is The furthest stop outside of Atlanta. You have to ride to the transfer at Five Points and hop the West bound line to the first stop, W1. After the game, everybody will be trying to get back to Five Points. Jump the first train going west (away from Five Points) then get off at the first stop and transfer to the next East Bound train. You will beat the crowd and will have a seat. Do the same thing when you get to Five Points by going south tobthe first stop and transfering north there and it will be an easy trip. Make sure you get on the correct return line (gold for Doraville, not red).

Aug 26, 2012, 11:07 PM

sorry to hijack, anyone know if a taxi would be easier after the game?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Taxis in Atlanta are spotty at best, would not recommend.

Aug 26, 2012, 11:17 PM

Around the Ga. Dome, with gameday traffic, it'll be difficult, as well. If you do manage to get one, expect to pay $30-$40 to get back to some place like Buckhead.

Fares are roughly $2.25 for the first 1/8th of a mile and $0.25 for each additional 1/8th of a mile, plus $21.00/hour waiting time, which can get charged to you any time the car is idling.
