Mangey: Clemson's "football problem" has been the same since 2021.

A business consultant I used to work with taught me to always ask the question, what is the "business problem" I am dealing with. In other words, strip all the people, the emotions, the consequences, etc. away and what is the underlying, core business problem.
Clemson's "football problem" (the reason we don't win big games and are not at the elite level of 2015-2020) has been the same since 2021. Namely, our QBs and WRs can't "take the top off the defense" by completing long passes or big yardage plays that make the defenses play us honest. They can load the box and dare us to throw, which we cannot do.
So the questions are Why? And how do we fix it?
And before we jump to the NIL and portal as possible solutions, remember these problems pre-date those factors.
We have QBs who seem to lack mental toughness. A coach who is very reluctant to pull a QB who is struggling. And WRs who just are not up to the standard (while they are at Clemson anyhow) of WRU.
Why? How do we fix it?

I hate to say it, but we need a new Head Coach. Dabo is a great man and has done amazing things for Clemson, but the college football landscape has changed, and Dabo no longer fits in.
Thankful for everything Dabo has done but his time is over. Every decision he has made in the past 4 years has been terrible. He cannot adjust and he cannot keep up with the changing times and landscape of college football.
I just don't know who we can get that would be better and that is the problem.
Lane Kiffin - Probably not leaving Ole Miss/SEC for Clemson. Kyle Wittingham - This could be a real possibility but is he better than Dabo or more of the same? Mark Stoops - Not leaving the SEC for the ACC Eli Drinkwitz - Possibility Lance Leipold - Definite possibility

Jamey Chadwell would be my vote but again, back to 2021.

Was it Dabo then?
These are not new problems. But despite new players and new coaches they remain our Achilles.
Why?

Maybe it is not so much Dabo but maybe more of Brent being gone. When he left, things went downhill quick. I don't know how much influence he had outside of the defensive, but he is missed.

A great defensive mind helps puck apart an offense. Yours and theirs. To think he didn’t have influence on the O, would be short sighted.

Dabo will make changes when he absolutely has to. This season is shaping up

to be an "absolutely has to" season. I'd say turn control of the offense over to the OC would be a good first step. And fire about 3-4 position coaches in the offseason.

Ultimately it comes down to whether we want to be

a university with a football team or a football team that just happens to play on a university campus.
I feel like UGa (and FSU etc etc) all have football teams that just happen to play at a university.
I understand the benefits to the school, but many of those are causing the broader issues we don’t like on our campus, large numbers of out of state students, rapid growth, loss of small town feel, etc.
I think Dabo wants to keep Clemson as a university with a football team and still try to win as much as he can. I’m ok with that. Not thrilled because like everyone else, I’ve gotten spoiled, but I’m ok with it. (As long as he keeps beating the dirtpeckers )

Riley was a poor hire IMO
Streeter’s offense averaged 5.6 yards per play in last 14 games and Riley’s averaged 5.1 in his first 14.
In two season opening games, Riley’s offense has been miserable with no creativity or nuance. Bad game plans given extended preparation time.
Not sure Riley is not affecting overall coaching and team morale. Let Luke coach the offense and play the best players. When Dabo says he has SIX WRs that can start / look good it is not good _ either the coaches can’t see separation in performance or are unwilling to make tough calls by benching some and starting others.

Good morning. Yep _ likely a premature, emotional rambling at that time.

Unfortunately there’s more evidence to support it now.
Run off 10 or 11 wins with a top 20 offense and I will gladly eat crow.

In my opinion it's all QB play...

we whiffed on two 5 star recruits, and don't portal to find a replacement. Cannot recover from that. And now with NIL, we can't even sniff another Watson/Lawrence type.
To me, defense is still championship caliber.
But Saturday was the last chance of being nationally relevant, and we failed miserably.
We are now just an above average (8-4) program, and with not NIL or portal, that is our ceiling.
Kinda sad, but thinking back to 2015-2019 still makes me smile

Naw, the defenses BV fielded with DJ as QB were championship level.

These defenses are razor thin with multiple players playing out of position. D is solid but not spectacular.

Which we can’t afford due to his buyout.
Dabo has staffed his positions with ex players who have under performed. He’s made a couple decent hires recently but it appears Dabo is still controlling the offense. Grisham has to go. Our WRs have been soft for years.
Dabo is too stubborn to adjust to today’s game. His approached worked pre-NIL/portal, but not any more.

Interesting the replies did the opposite of what the business consultant said to do. Immediately the "people" involved are the problem. QB's, WR's, coaches....
IMO, the "problem" is the system we run. Offense and defense. We have been running the same offense for the last 10 years. In the past, we have recruited the personnel to run it. Now, it seems, we cannot. So whomever you get to run it, from the OC on down is irrelevant. Opposing defenses know what we are going to do and when. Makes you wonder what Streeter's contribution as offensive analyst at Georgia was after the half. I also believe this to be the lack of incoming through the transfer portal. Which impact player are you going to get if the deal is "this is what we do and you need to learn how to do it"?
Which is another systematic problem. I rarely see us make any adjustments during the game. We continue to try and do the same things. Over and Over.
Defensively I believe us to be pretty solid. If could put my finger on the missing piece it would be the role of MLB. Traditionally the captain of the defense. Making those necessary adjustments sometimes just prior to the snap. I have not seen that since Skalski.
