There is no reason whatsoever for a skilled player not to test the free market after every single season, jump at a better paid offer if he feels like it, or stay put if not available (and make demands for staying at your current school). College football simply cannot survive a full-fledged free agency system, and that's what we currently have right now. And it's real hard to walk back in any reasonable fashion now that it's out of the bag.

They have one of the biggest alumni bases in the country. It seems like that's going to be the main funding strength going forward, so the Michigans, Texas's, Penn States (500k+ living alumni) of the world are in the driver's seat now, even to the detriment of schools like Alabama (200k alumni) whose boosters filled the coffers nicely up to the point (and beyond, let's be honest) of NCAA allowance but come up drastically short in a Wild West free range scenario.

There are only so many roster spots available. You are right that a dividing line will grow up somewhere on the financial resources spectrum. I expect Clemson would be on the wrong side of that line but the SEC TV money alone should keep every SEC team in the arms race.

However, I make that decision based on Ryan Day having the look of a man who will inevitably get beaten/killed in a road rage incident that he caused. Just look at those eyes, he's pulling out in front of people then brake checking them at least 4-5 times a week, guaranteed. Men with patchy beards like his always have a bad attitude......I'm kind of talking myself into going with Ryan Day now I think

and I despise PJ. PJ's a cocky piece of ####, but still somewhat of a good ole boy that you could drink a beer with. He should've just stayed at GA Southern.
I don't see or hear anything from Ryan Day that would prevent me from trying to knock his teeth out. Checks all the boxes, first of which, is that he's a yankee coaching for Ohio State.

If some schools want to sponsor/brand pro-teams, let them break away and do it (though I hope Clemson never does). The rest of the schools can go back to something resembling the past system. That would also fix the anti-trust problem.
I do wonder if some of these "complaints" by coaches are really just signals to the boosters on how much they need to pony up.

realize loading up their roster with the best players NIL money can buy doesn't necessarily translate to on the field success. Similar to what we saw with the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA this year, the guys that are in it solely money will bail on you at the drop of a hat, and they're not going to be that committed in the first place. Likewise, bouncing around 2-3 different schools and having to integrate themselves into a new system may not be the best avenue to the NFL for most players.

to negative returns in the NFL draft as well. I could be wrong here.
Another thing is this model diminishes the value of the education piece, which will further exacerbate the problem of mid-tier dudes not making it to the league. The $6M these kids make in 3 years will be gone before they're 24 years old.

who transfer because they couldn't start at their original school, only to realize now they are trying to start with even less background/practice in their new school's system.
Pre-NIL/Transfer Portal, you could argue that Kelly Bryant would have been better served sticking at Clemson and changing positions. Feaster would have been better off as the established backup than doing very little at another school.
It pisses me off that a lot of cfb media presents these options as entirely pro-player/player empowerment without acknowledging the downsides. How long did Puma-chon sit in the transfer portal before getting a life raft at GT?

I do wonder how the market shakes out if all is left alone. Is TAMU going to be dropping seven figures per class if they can't break 10 wins?
