Stewart Mandel: “That being said, I am willing to declare one ACC coach’s mini-dynasty officially over. ... If No. 1 Georgia’s 34-3 rout of No. 14 Clemson in Atlanta looked at times like college kids against high school kids … well, it was. Once again this offseason, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney declined to tap into the transfer portal’s wealth of unrestricted free agents to upgrade his roster. Clemson joined Army, Navy and Air Force as the only schools to take zero transfers. And so on Saturday, Swinney’s team took on an opponent that has lost only two games in the past three years with the same exact guys that lost four ACC games last season. The Tigers’ offense gained just 188 yards. Three years earlier, these same teams opened the 2021 season, with two-time national champ Swinney coming off his sixth straight Playoff appearance, while Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart had been to one CFP in five years. Georgia won that meeting 10-3 and went on to win the next two national titles. Clemson went on to win last year’s Gator Bowl. Smart evolved to embrace loosened rules around name, image and likeness compensation and the portal. His biggest stars are still home-grown guys: quarterback Carson Beck, safety Malaki Starks, et al. But knowing he needed help at receiver this offseason, he added Miami’s Colbie Young and Vanderbilt’s London Humphreys from the portal. Both caught touchdowns Saturday. Clemson, which ranked 109th out of 133 FBS teams last season in catches of 20-plus yards, rode with the same group it had. Quarterback Cade Klubnik averaged just 4.9 yards per attempt Saturday.”

Yes. And the only real issue - is Dabo smart enough to realize it and adapt.

Dabo is 100% smart enough, but going to the portal will involve admitting he was wrong, and I’m not sure if he’s capable of doing that anymore

Oh and believe me I am not a portal guy. I think college football sucks in its current state. I like Dabo’s way of doing things, but I also once liked my rotary phone. You have to change and adapt to the times.

still do things the right way. It’s not that difficult
But he will have to admit in some ways he was wrong. Not sure if that can happen

And if Dabo does not change, then the next question is when does the Clemson leadership decide to make a change.

Dabo can still instill his values and mantra

while keeping Clemson as a top ten program.
These changes are not BAD changes. But they are different from what he is comfortable with.
He has the ability to thrive in the current state of CFB. But I’m sure it’s hard for him. To me that would show his true toughness. Adapt and still succeed

He cannot, the landscape has changed. All the top teams used to fight over elite kids, and you would win some and lose some. Now the top teams can go out and buy elite kids to shore up weaknesses. If you’re only recruiting kids out of high school only, you cannot do this. You’re stuck with what you recruited if they’re a bust. Dabo is choosing to ignore this new dynamic, and it is showing up on the field

Stopped reading as soon as I saw it was from the NY Times.
It wouldn't shock me if the article somehow blamed Donald Trump for Clemaon woes and suggested we pick up Kamala Harris in the transfer portal bc she's the best at everything all time and for forever. She could probably even play QB and WR at the same time she's so awesome and special

Mandel not fully accurate

We added two stud high school receivers b it for some reason they mostly stood on the sidelines yesterday letting the lesser lights grab the playing time. Dabo is incredibly loyal. But it’s time for him to take his hands off the offense like he did defense when Venebles came.
