Speaking of restaurants, how did Outback

become the most UDP steak house. I ate there a few times in the early 90s in Augusta, liked the concept and the food.
Now, on Friday and Saturday nights, there are mobs of UDPers in Naples willing to wait 2 hours for a table.

That so many Americans are drawn to a concept based on celebrating a nation that started as a penal colony, I mean?

It's worse than Applebees as far as I'm concerned. Applebees at least has good fries.

Her favorite restaurant of all time.
They were one of those weird couples where he was like 90 lbs soaking wet and she had an extra 90 lbs to share
They weren’t necessarily UDP, but she loved that place that much

Amazing how quickly chains like that went out of style

Back in the mid-2000s, the Outback in Anderson was the place to go for a nice dinner. The wait was like 2-3 hours on Valentine's Day. I remember back in high school in the late 90s-early 2000s, Outback was sort of a special place to go out on a Friday. By the late 2000s or early 2010s, going to Outback was almost a joke.
The Chili's on campus was also a big deal way back when. By the time I'd moved to Chicago in 2011, we were all making fun of the tourists who would go to the Chili's downtown.

That chain has been on a steady decline for many years....

For a chain, their steaks, and specifically their salmon, were decent. The portions and quality have gotten really bad now. Wife-of likes to push to go there because she likes lobster tails and it's one of the few places you can get them. She has finally come around to my opinion that that place sucks.
On the other hand, we've gone to the Longhorn in Anderson a couple of time lately and that place is much better than I remember it being.

About a month ago I was tired of eating everything, and even more tired of cleaning up after cooking. So we ordered Outback.
Delivered, it was $30 for 2 salads, 2 baked potatoes, and a sirloin my wife and I split. Maybe we caught them on a good day, but the salad was fresh, the baked potato was perfect, and the steak was perfectly cooked. It could be cut with almost a butter knife: very tender and a perfect red center. Excellent. After dinner, I threw all the stuff in trash and didn't have to clean anything but my hands.
Best $30 I've spent this year.
