Any of you ever sold your house and became a renter?

Well, for the first time in 30 plus years or so I will be a renter. I signed an agreement today to sell my house in Wilmington in 90 days. When I move to wherever I go next I will be a renter. It's an odd feeling. Makes me wonder if that place will feel like home.

a few years - did some moving around and then settled down. Found a place with cheap rent and we were happy to be there for a few years.

It's a mixed feeling - less long-term security but then you aren't the one to have to fix the AC or the roof. And if you aren't sure where you want to be for the next __ years then renting is a good way to try out a new place.

In the list of things I have done in my lifetime, that's really kind of just a "hey I did that" kind of thing.

If we really wanted to talk about *dumb* things I have done over the years, buying a Dodge Durango and owning about 8 Jeeps has to be up there.

I always figured he thinks mentioning renting somehow bothers me, or that he's really jealous because he knows where he's going to be living the rest of his life. And where that is seems really, really sad to me.

2025 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Fbcooch will remind anyone that will read his posts.

I could no longer stand being surrounded on 3 sides by airbnb's. Everyday was a party--to someone. I liked the house but sold it and moved to Isle of Palms. At the time, renting was right for me because it also seemed like a good time to decide a lot of major changes in life, and if I wanted to continue to live here.

In many ways, it was the best thing I ever did. I loved living out there, and would have stayed, had covid not caused the price of everything to double. It also may have been the worst thing I ever did, because I found out how awesome it was to live on IOP, and now that prices have gone up even more, I know I'll never be able to live there again.

Not that I think you'll read this and turn it into something i never said.

My landlord and I talked on the phone before Christmas about renewing the lease in late January, and he never called me back.

He called me in February and said he had some people looking to rent the place when my lease expired in April. I took that as he didn't want me there anymore, so I made other arrangements. I asked him why he never called about me renewing, and he said it was a miscommunication. I told him that was not true, and eventually in the conversation it came out that he was raising the rent from $3200/month to $4700 per month, and he didn't think I'd want to spend that much.

And he was right, so I left.

2025 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In summary, you couldn't afford the rent and so he kicked you out***

it's hard (for me) to move 300-400 miles and immediately buy a new house. I always needed to live in a new town for a while to figure out preferred areas before taking the "buy-a-house plunge". So I always rented for 6 months+ while I looked for that perfect spot where I wanted to settle.

Yes.
Preface.
I bought my 1st home after Clemson in grad school. LSS I did t need to borrow student loan money but did to remodel and flip homes. Did that 3ish times in ~3 yrs. Was about to do fourth when started PhD and former Mrs Pabst said the big D ( not my big D). So lost most of my equity and started over. Left Grad school and rented. Effing hates it.
So as soon as I could bought...then when little Pabst moved out me and the Real Mrs Pabst sold and rented for ~18 months until we bought a condo.
Now own way too many condos and now trying to lock up as much land as I can till I build.
My point, renting is find for temporary...at least for me.
