How good is Georgia QB JT Daniels? The Georgia Spring Game

might offer some clues.

Sounds pretty good, right? Here is the 16 minute video of his throws in the game. Couple of things you notice:
1. He played the entire game - throwing the ball 41 times. That is odd for a spring game. With less than 2 minutes left, he's still in the game and throws a 60 yard TD after the defender falls down. They hadn't scored for most of the first half.
2. His footwork is inconsistent. He has a tendency to jump when he throws.
3. He's not very mobile. He's not very big. He doesn't have a very strong arm. In 15 games over his career he has 58 carries for -226 yards with a long run of 8 yards and a game rushing high of 2 yards.
4. Didn't see playmakers at wideout.

I actually put very little value in the spring game. I'd look more toward the games he started last year. He played pretty well against overpowered opponents. But take a look at the Cincy game. If I remember correctly, a lot of their defense sat that game out, but most of their offense was there. I seem to remember them struggling regularly in that game.

ok, just watched that long video. Immobile is almost an understatement. Man he struggles to move once he drops back.

their offense against a talented defense and coordinator unless that QB has a cannon and the receivers to spread the field and take the top off the defense, which they don't appear to have.

Didn't watch the video but the jumping thing is not necessarily a bad thing depending on how and why he is jumping. Apparently Aaron Rodgers does the same thing and jumps or hops when he throws (not comparing JT to rodgers). Saw where a lot of QBS do this to stay healthy so they don't get rolled up on as they plant and step into their throws and they have the arm strength to make the throws.

I wondered if he was doing that because he has hurt his knee

but, you notice in the video that he doesn't have the strength and accuracy to do it successfully and he does it often.

Yeah great QBs can rely on their arm strength and can afford a little hop or jump. Sadly for Georgia Jt isn't an elite QB with an elite arm. Could be totally wrong like I said I didn't watch the vid. SO he could be doing it and it be bad throwing mechanics but he also could very well be doing it intentionally because it isn't as uncommon as you would think and there is legit reason behind it.
At the end of the day though DJU > JT Daniels and it isn't close.

You are correct. He does try to emulate Aaron Rodgers mechanics with the pop step. When timed well it works ok for him, but he's too inconsistent with it.

According to PFF he made the worst decisions in the country's last year, throwing down field when nothing was there and putting a lot of balls in position to be intercepted, bad chances, bad decisions.

Your summary is inconsistent with what was actually said. They never mentioned anything about "worst decisions in the country". You made that up.

Dude, semantics in wording--I wasn't even bashing him, just sharing the point that the film shows he is not consistent and has the "highest depth average per attempt" and just throws deep with nothing there... sorry my summary offended you.

His previous starts all came against opponents who, shall we say, weren't among the nations top teams defensively. A lot of QB's would have looked good against those same teams.
