Longhorn fans & Austin experience

28

Dec 24, 2024, 3:36 PM

My son (3) and I went to Austin for the game. Although sad to lose, we had an excellent experience.

This was my first time visiting Austin. By all accounts, a fun city. Shoutout to @bbaileyln for the Austin recommendations, particularly Terry Black’s bbq - arguably the best I’ve ever had.

Bevo Blvd around the stadium was unique and very fun for my 3 year old son. They had all kinds of games, bounce houses, places to take pictures, free samples of snacks and drinks, etc.

The Texas fans were very welcoming to us. I wasn’t sure what to expect from them, and perhaps my son acted as an emotional shield from any hate, but every person I interacted with was happy to see us there and gave recommendations of things to do in town on our visit. One fan in particular at the game even offered to get us food/drinks from the concession stand in between quarters. Even after I thanked him and declined, he still brought us back a water.

The stadium holds 100K+ and was loud. I thought the general environment felt somewhat similar to Death Valley as far as fan excitement, support, and volume. My son loved seeing Bevo throughout the game. They had a drone show after the 3rd quarter, which was absolutely amazing.

All in all, it was a great experience. Fun city, great food, great parks, great gameday experience, and welcoming fans. Glad we went to support our Tigers, win or lose.

Haven't you learned by now that there isn't such a thing that could be beneficial for the coots, and I do mean nothing!!!

I agree with on it being a very positive experience. I also flew down to Austin and their 100,000 seater stadium was very impressive! Texas doesn’t mess around when it comes to GO BIG OR GO HOME and it showed. I was also treated very well by all the fans to the point of being offered a Texas jersey because I had a cowboy hat and boots with my Clemson stuff LOL! I ended up changing my flight and staying an extra day. Very good trip despite the loss. I did feel walking into that stadium that a win was gonna be very tough. If we’d played all game like we did on that first drive we had a shot

While at the game, a Texas fan stuck their finger down their throat until they vomited on me, then threw my baby from the upper deck. I came home with a loss and without a baby. It was a terrible experience.

I did watch that from afar. Sorry you lost your baby. But, alas, my experience was a good one.

Most Texas based teams have about the same environment and treatment of opposing fan bases as Death Valley. Perhaps we’re cut from the same cloth and all others desire to be like us?! Yes, this is truth. We respect others, treat them like family, and know no foes other than chickens. We are long separated brothers and sisters reunited through football.

Texans by and large are good folks. I think William Barret Travis and James Butler Bonham made a good SC impression on Texans years ago which has put us in a favorable light.

I’ve always been welcome N, S, E and W in TX.

Glad y’all had a good experience.

I also had a great experience at the game. Very friendly people and one of the most unique (in a good way) venues I’ve been too.

My experience was also very position. Didn’t know what to expect bc I always hear horror stories when it comes to away games. Would def go back to another game.

I did feel like Death Valley was a way tougher environment to play in tho. Could be bc Texas students were on break

@kfrid, so glad you and your son had a great time in Austin. Likewise to the others. It was the second time for me in the stadium and even better this time, despite the loss.
I thought the mariachi band was interesting, but they got old after a while. IMO that genre of music represents San Antonio better than Austin. I guess Asleep At The Wheel was busy !?!
I haven't even had a chance to watch a recording of the game since we traveled to Wyoming the next day for Christmas. I can tell you that seeing their run game steamroll our defense live was very sad. Ugh!!! Fix the defense and we can be taking a bye in the CFP next year.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
