the structure from falling down? You have a truck for picking up and hauling off wood. All you need is a prybar, impact driver, the 50 boards, and some screws. Do this one yourself.

Jokes aside, if I were to redo a deck I’d definitely use the composite boards that will never rot or need to be stained.

And on a resale, especially in this location, nobody cares. I mean they might walk back there and go "great! it has a trex deck" but nobody is buying (or not buying) the house because of it.

but I guess I've given you too much credit:
Houses don't mean a whole lot to me. It's just a place to poop, and keep my stuff dry. They are often a PIA, and cost a lot of money. A big benefit to this one is I'll never lose money on it when I sell it.
Like Dave Ramsey says, there's one on every corner.
I like the location here, but if it came down to it, I could be just as happy living in a bunch of different places.

Labor is fooking expensive these days. When burger flippers are making $15-20 an hour inside, manual labor is making a killing.
I got a quote for 140 linear feet of 5-1/4 baseboards with shoe molding. Install, caulk, paint. Materials were right at $600. Total quote was $3,200.
That's $18.50 a linear foot in labor.
Needless to say it's now on the DIY list.

If you were a professional estimator, I would forgive you, but....
things not considered... some mentioned below:
permits, hauling, dump fees, etc.
Also, overhead for the guy doing the quoting and all the other overhead expenses.
I would say profit is between 20%-30%.
Which for a job that small, is very reasonable profit margin.

I just had my hot water heater replaces (gas instant hot water heater is something I didn't know I needed until I got it)...The guys who were going to pull permits and everything were like $2k more expensive. F that, it isn't rocket science. Dudes even knocked off a few bucks since I helped them load the old heaters up with my front end loader.

But I could get my projects done a lot faster if I had a couple of Mexican helpers to do the grunt work.
And use composite decking from a good brand, much easier maintenance.
Personally, I'm letting my deck rot so I have the incentive to tear it down and add on to the house in same footprint...

That sounds cheap, what's the catch?

For comparison, I have a quote for $16k to replace gutters, or $6k to paint my fence. Paying $6k for a deck sounds like a steal.

from his first quote. I'm $8500 all in getting all new wood decking, new steps, and a metal roof.
I think I'm going to do it.
Expensive month for home stuff...getting a new driveway/slab installed for my boat to park on as we speak.
