i just walked out of a 2.5-hour meeting where my boss kept saying it's quintessential that we do this or that. i am sure he meant essential, and around the third time he said it i had to bite my tongue.
i have misused words many times before but usually figure out i look like an idiot. some examples that i hear often:
Intents and purposes is one example, not intensive purposes.
Tigernet Board/Bored can get mixed up
Take it with a grain of Slaw
what are some others?

I have a buddy who uses the wrong word, or mixed metaphors on ‘Porpoise’. The looks on peoples faces is priceless. He’s as good as Norm Crosby.
By the way, y’all is proper english, you- uns is not. Also, here in the south jewelry box is to be pronounced the same as jury box.

A friend of mine that I used to hunt with said he saw some does “meanderthalling” around. Just shook my head.
Should of instead of should have is a regular offender. Funny, when I typed should of, autocorrect changed it.
Bored and grade of slaw are intentional on TNet. They are just a few of many inside jokes among frequent poasters on here.

If we are retiring words and phrases, please add “the transfer from ..….” and “the …… transfer”.
Maybe allow it the first week or two of the season but by now it really doesn’t matter where someone played last year.

...this is definitely a "me" thing, but I do not like hearing "our" pronounced "are". I really prefer hearing "ow-er". Totally a nerd thing and I don't "call people out" as I don't even think they're wrong...just a strong preference.
Also, I get furious when I see the to/two/too or their/they're/there mistake...but only in my own posts. Typing fast and then not checking, and then realizing I had made that mistake. Just a bad look. Yet it never bothers me when others do it.
