NEBRASKA RECRUITING: MARYLAND DE COMMITS

Dec 22, 2008, 10:41 AM

...Looks like we stole a good 4-star DE outa Maryland. The Kid looks great on paper. Rivals has him at #10. We must be doing something right for him to bypass you guys, VaTech and his home state! Welcome to the Motherland Jason!!

Sometimes the youngest anglers on the pond reel in the biggest fish.

Such is the case with Nebraska defensive ends coach John Papuchis - the youngest on the Cornhuskers’ staff - who helped draw a verbal commitment from touted prepster Jason Ankrah, two recruiting Web sites confirmed.

Ankrah, from Gaithersburg, Md., attended Quince Orchard High School, the same as Papuchis. He had 55 tackles and 7 1/2 sacks this year. Ankrah visited for the Kansas game, and turned down offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Michigan and Maryland. The home state Terps and nearby Hokies were believed to be other leaders for Ankrah’s services, although Ankrah visited Happy Valley in September.

I'm surprised they didn't include his comments....

"It's an honor to play for Nebraska," Ankrah said. "All my life, my parents said I should go on a mission trip to a third-world country ... and now I get to go to college in one!"

"I've been fond of pancakes sicne I was a little boy," he added. "Now I not only get to eat them, but I get to live on a 500-square mile pancake. I'm so excitied, I'd shout from the hill tops...except there aren't any in Nebraska."
