Speaking of hot as hayell and ACs...

I do not think I have ever had an AC go out in my car. And I had some cars that were 15 years old. I cannot seem to get a house AC that lasts more than 7 years.

I would think the car has a whole lot harsher conditions. I need to just replace my home AC with a car ac I guess.

I was told that car units are essentially like 1 to 1.5 ton units that are way oversized to get max cooling ASAP when you turn them on. So they are way overpowered for a small space. Unlike house units which are running full capacity for almost 24/7 in the summer.

At least that what I was told. Also had a lecturer for that class and not a professor. Roby, I think it was

I do not think they are supposed to be designed to run

I am saying that they should be sized to run only part time.

It's not always about the size.

It's the insulation (and the ductwork).

You could size the unit 5x larger than it needs to be to cool faster, but you'll just end up making mold from the condensation. A lot of the A/C is removing humidity from the air.In SC, with a usual 50-80% relative humidity...that's difficult.

Not sure, but his son Kenny is a heck of a great singer-songwriter.

I've lost one side of my car AC before

it was weird - driver side cold, passenger side blew hot air.

It was some sensor gone bad (which is now about 80% of all automobile issues)

DX splits prefer longer runtimes...

If you're constantly starting/stopping your house A/C by how you keep temps, or if it's grossly oversized you'll kill the compressor. Long term, start/stops on your compressor can shorten the life span.

A split system for your house has an ASHRAE life expectancy of 15 years.

I just bought a refrigerator big enough to fit my house in.

I think a car AC system is a lot more simple than a home system.

Some differences I can think of:

- car compressor is belt driven, which is a lot easier on the compressor versus electric driven compressors in a home system with their starting capacitors, etc...also home system sees line transients to some degree
- car heat comes from the engine
- car system run a faction of the time a home system runs

You are saying I will need the engine of the car as well to have an AC that lasts longer than 7 years.

But for reals... what always goes bad is the coil or it develops a leak. Not the electrical stuffs.

Car AC coils vary widely by model...

or at least they used to - haven't touched one in many years. I would think an auto coil would be a lot better protected than a home coil.

I'm a little surprised you've coils that need replacing in 7 yrs though. Not sure I've ever had a leak out on the coil itself. Has always been at a fitting that can be repaired.
