How come PETA is not after USuC for their mascot?

"Fighting Gamecocks", I mean really. I know they say it's after General Sumter or whoever, but their logo isn't a Revolutionary War hero - it's a bird with spurs. Explain how "spurs" on a rooster have any other function than illegal cockfights?

PETA actually made a run at $CU a few yeas ago....

and the $CU administration basically told PITA to go pi$$-up a rope (which, by the way, is exactly what they should have done).
I believe it was PETA who suggested that $CU change its mascot to the Sweat Socks; a reference to $CU that you will occasionally still see used here.
