Boyd stating on radio this morning
Dec 8, 2017, 11:36 AM
|
|
that some Seniors on the 2010 team weren't ALLIN and didn't buy into Dabo. Would this be just defensive players that thought Koenning should have gotten the job.Or was it others also ?
Boyd's quote
“I was in the locker room after that game in Charlotte, and I sat there as a young player, and our whole team was young at that particular time, but we had some seniors, guys who have been involved with the program for a long time that were not under Coach Swinney’s regime and just did not buy in.
“Some of those guys got up after the game and said, ‘That you guys will never win anything here. They are going to lie to you and tell you they are going to win ACC Championships. That is not going to happen.’ That was a true statement right there.

Idk, but similar was said by Dabo & Dalton Freeman later...
Dec 8, 2017, 11:44 AM
|

Dalton said there were some older guys on the Offensive Line that didn't want to adjust to the changes Coach Caldwell was making after he was hired, that they were on cruise control. Dabo basically said the staff was going to find out who did and did not want to play football and move forward with those guys that did.
I believe both were said going into the Spring after the OB debacle, so a little later than Boyd's 2010, but similar quit from the "older guys".

Some of that quit was on the defensive side during the OB

debacle too because it looked like we flat gave up after the Ellington fumble was returned for a TD.

I guess that's what Dabo meant when he first got the job
Dec 8, 2017, 11:48 AM

and said he had to change the culture from the inside of the team and then to the outside.

And I guarantee you they would not own up to it now. They are probably all sporting their Clemson gear and taking credit for the Natty.

It appears that Dabo has weeded them out of the program and you wonder what those players are thinking now. 7 straight 10 win seasons, 4 ACC championships, 3 straight college playoff appearances, 2 College football national championship games, and partridge in a pear tree (National Championship). With the possibility of a second partridge in a pear tree. Go Tigers.

you can't have two partridges in a pear tree, they attack each other like Betta fish.

+1 for pieholes. One of my favorite terms. Only I usually say gaping pieholes.

Whatever..that 2010 Bowl melt down in front 0f only 12,000 fans was sad!

I looked in binoculars at DaBO and saw a resolve on his face on that gray day that Clemson football would NEVER Again be humiliated..especially by a lesser team ( Skip Holtz & a new team from Florida!).

I would love if Tajh was featured more on WCCP. He has such great insight into the program and really understands football as well as anyone.

That speaks more to the team culture under...
Dec 8, 2017, 3:05 PM
|

Bowden. Those guys talking like that NEVER WERE “All In”... and it showed in the overall inconsistency of results on the field with his team. Bowden and his staff OBVIOUSLY failed to motivate his players; he failed to build confidence in them individually and as a unit. Bowden is not a head coach at this level for those reasons. The best thing he did was to see the potential in Dabo and recommend him as a replacement... to do what he knew he would never be able to do here.
