Lemanksi Hall

This probably won't be a popular post, but in my opinion, Lemanksi Hall needs to step it up and show that he is a quality coach this season.

We've had some outstanding talent at DE under Hall, but we have consistently lacked discipline at that position; we've over pursued plays, haven't maintained proper rushing lanes, and lost outside containment again and again. Talent has masked those issues a lot of the time...but we've been burned on big downs. You didn't see that nearly as often under Marion Hobby. That man could coach DEs and make talented guys better through teaching discipline and technique. Coaching matters!

This is a big year for the DEs. We need XT to stay healthy, and to play with discipline. I expect Peter Woods to end up on the edge for at least this year, and we need a coach who develops him, not just cuts him loose based on talent.

Hopefully some of the other guys- some older, some younger- step up too. But in my mind it comes down to coaching. We've got gifted players. But we always have. We need to see them develop and improve. We need solid fundamentals on the edge if we are going to be successful on defense.

Hopefully this is a big year for our DEs and Coach Hall.

Clearly Dan Brooks and Marion Hobby were great recruiters and great coaches and hard to live up to their level. Losing Hobby, IMO, hurt more from a coaching perspective than recruiting. His DE's always performed at a high level. He turned several guys into NFL draft picks who were not highly recruited players ie Kevin Dodd for one.

There have been some things written about Ski here and other websites that question his coaching and developmental skills. On the other hand, the players seem to love him. Having said that, it's hard to say if the lack of production and development of say a Murphy is on Ski or the players. You could make an argument Henry never really blossomed until his senior year.

Just ####. Unless you played at the Clemson level you have no idea what you are talking about.

Nick Saban - Kent State
Urban Meyer - Cincinnati
Brian Kelly - Assumption
Ryan Day - New Hampshire
James Franklin - East Stroudsburg
Sonny Dykes - Texas Tech (played baseball)
Lane Kiffin - Fresno State
Lance Leipold - Wisconsin Whitewater

You get the picture? None of these guys played at "Clemson level" but are some of the top coaches out there. Point being, you don't have to have experience at a top tier D1 program to know what you're talking about.

Are you saying the OP is a college coach? Doubtful.

I stand by my original post.

People who watch sports and comment here about coaching are morons.

There are alot of fans that watch sports but can no longer play them. Some of those fans have great minds. I could easily go coach a Clemson baseball game tomorrow. No doubt about it

His post is correct. The DE position has fallen off the last few seasons.
