Tajh Boyd and NIL.

Yes, I know Tajh didn't play in the NIL era. He came to Clemson and helped usher in a new era for us. He didn't come for money. He came to be part of something unique, something bigger than him, something bigger than all of us. He came and created a legacy that is still great today. Money can't buy what Tajh got from Clemson. He became part of a family. There is something in these hills, and that something is now in Tajh Boyd too.

Two years ago after the end of a 7:30 start in the valley, my self, my wife, my daughter and her friends were hanging around late in Lot 6. My daughter and her friends were throwing the football and an errant pass crossed the center lane of Lot 6 into the oncoming path of a jeep. The jeep stopped and a gentleman got out and retrieved the ball for my daughter's friends. He took the time to ask each of them their major and what they wanted from life after Clemson. He encouraged each one of them. That gentleman was Tajh Boyd. I wouldn't trade that night, that experience, the pride I felt for my university, or the life long memory for my daughter and her friends for any amount of money. Money can't buy what Tajh gave to Clemson.

Those are the kinds of stories I am afraid we will lose due to NIL. Players that will now have no sense of belonging to the university. I hope I am wrong. Most will call me sentimental, a correct assessment, but I will miss the days when players came here because they loved Clemson like I do. Money can't buy that. I hope we enjoy what we get that takes its place.

Clemson recruits character as well as athleticism. Fine example of both.

We were both class of '13. One of my roommates had a class with Tajh and they became friends. I was walking across campus with my friend one day and we bumped into Tajh and we were introduced. From that day forward Tajh would always say hey to me when we would randomly see each other around campus. Yea he was a really kind and generous person even back when he was Kyle Parker's backup and relatively unknown.

He would have 100% made a boat load of NIL if it was available when he was a student; no one refuses to profit off of something they're already doing. You know what, it wouldn't have changed him one bit and he'd still have been the guy who interacted with your family

Was hoping this story would end with TB stabbing the football

My daughter was the Tiger Cub mascot and that lead to several meetings with Tajh. His first job after Clemson was with a packaging company in Greenville and he called on the plant I managed in Asheville a couple of times. Very genuine guy and always friendly. We were at the Hoover ### the day after we beat Ocryo St in the playoffs at the end of the 2019 season and I heard someone call my name from across the road and it was Tajh. He came over and talked to us for a while. I would see him after that when I was working at the 55 Exchange on campus and he always had time to talk for a few minutes.
He is the type of guy that fits into Dabo’s and Clemson’s culture. While I understand your concerns about NIL, I still think there will be guys like Tajh that will come to Clemson because of the University and Dabo. These guys will find what’s in them hills and will stay. I think both Cade and CV are these kind of guys. Comments I read this week from David Eziomume give me hope that he is that type of guy. Hearing the comments from some of the new recruits I think these type of young men still exist and they will be drawn to schools and programs like Clemson. At least like to hope so.

Though we will lose some of that I believe some kids will still pick Clemson for the right reason and will love it here. For some it is not all about the money. Good story about Tajh, thanks for sharing.

Nice post. We need reminders of what’s important all across a lot of avenues in the Me First age we are in.

I met Tajh at a job fast Clemson when he was working at a packaging company about 10 years ago. He was gracious. My son, who looks a lot like me, saw Tajh a couple months ago. Tajh said hey don’t go know you? I. The conversation they figured out he had actually met me 10 years ago. My son thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and the fact that he had remembered meeting me 10 years prior.

What some people seem to forget, Tajh was one of the toughest football players to ever play QB at Clemson. If you ever doubt it, watch the video of the Clemson-Ohio State Orange bowl game in 2014. Tajh took a beating that night that normal men cannot survive yet he kept getting up and eventually produced a 40-35 Tiger win. The single toughest performance I have ever seen played by a Clemson QB. We are lucky to have him in the Clemson family!

and kept getting back up and eventually led Clemson to the 25-24 victory. (4th and 16 forever!). My son and I were at that game in Atlanta and it will always be a great memory for us.

Tajh stopped by our manufacturing facility about 10 years ago when he worked for Piedmont National packaging supplies in Greenville. He was friendly and chatted with several people including myself and took pics.

Beautiful story Rev! Tahj is a great clemson man indeed. I have a buddy that does guided striper trips on Hartwell and Tahj is a regular. He’s a coot graduate but absolutely loves Tahj. Chip is a great guide. He’s filled many coolers for family fish fry’s.
