Lamar Jackson

Dec 2, 2019, 6:14 AM

It’s funny to me to listen to commentators tiptoe around why Lamar was drafted so late in the first round. Everyone in the NFL knew he was an amazing athlete. It was the fact that Lamar Jackson is a moron that led to his draft slippage. Many NFL scouts worried he wouldn’t be able to read defenses. To his credit, Jackson has been awesome. He has been well coached.

I dont think it was because they thought he was a moron. They questioned his passing ability and his accuracy. They didnt think his game would translate to the NFL.

He also worked his butt off to get better.

Upgraded his passing game during the off-season and practices like a madman.

He scored a 13 on the wonderlic...

...which is pretty dreadful. It was also a mistake to not run at the combine imo. I know he didn’t want to be repositioned as we/rb but he appears to have 4.3 speed which could have bumped him up higher. Hey, right now he’s proving everybody wrong. Deshaun’s in a good place in Houston but Harbaugh is clearly a better coach/developer than O’Brien.

Watson scored a 20, the lowest in his draft class. The Wonderlic is just like every other combine metric in that it's accuracy is somewhere the in mid 50%-mid 60% range, and they haven't come up with anything better so it stays around.
