Lack of effort

The lack of effort is before the game not during the game. Free throws are made by putting in the time to shoot them until you can stand at the line and know you're going to make it. Many a non-scholarship player can make 75-80 percent.

chasn: You are correct, IMO, that the time must be put in. From what I see, we have many players who simply do not understand the mechanics behind a good free throw technique and a good jump shot for that matter. Very simple but they don't get it.

If a D-1 basketball player can't make 2/3s of his free throws, coach should pull his scholly. That would get their attention. No excuse. I saw a 10 year old make 11 in a row at my gym recently.
