Labeling mass shooters "terorrists"

Nov 6, 2017, 7:34 PM

If you have noticed, over the past year or so there has been a very loud cry from certain groups to label every single mass shooter a terrorist. Especially ones that are white. The new popular narrative is "Oh the shooter was white? Why won't people call him a terrorist then? He was a terrorist plain and simple". Then when someone tries to get to the bottom of a motive the answer is "he was a terrorist. Accept it".

How does any of that accomplish anything? Labeling a shooter a terrorist and thats the end of that does absolutely nothing to determine motive, cause, possible prevention etc. Blanket labeling violent acts as terrorism is actually harmful to preventing them because it makes it seem like there s a disease people get called "terrorism" that simply happens and nothing can be done about it. It ignores mental health issues or weapon accumulation issues and everything else.

(BTW this also applies to Islamic terrorists as well. The label often does nothing to go into the political or mental motivations of an Islamic terrorist. )

I don't see why there is an overwhelming drive on social media now to make these mass shootings about race. It ignores the real causes! The only mass shooting in recent times that was directly related to race was the horrible Charleston church shooting.

Ask conservatives. They've been telling us for years you can't beat terrorism until you label it Islamic terrorism

because our laws become much more severe when it is labeled a terrorist attack, and too your point, most of these crazy mass shooters are white.

Terrorist has a definition because labeling something

terrorism has a practical purpose.

Terrorism is intentionally killing, intimidating, injuring or targeting non-military targets to further a specific or general political aim.

Most people are just embarrassing themselves by trying to turn it into a racial thing. The only time race would be a factor is if a person who committed an act that fits the description above was not called a terrorist simply because of their race.

There are so few adults left in the world.
