I live halfway between Asheville and Hendersonville. Asheville has its own vibe but is a great place to visit. Great restaurants, breweries and other entertainment catering to tourists. It does attract many way-out characters but I have found their lifestyle choices do not limit my enjoyment of the city noting I am not walking the streets at midnight.

Absolutely. I lived there for several years, and forced myself to be open-minded. I was amazed how people VERY UNLIKE ME accepted me. All I had to do was be nice. It was very good for me to live and get to know people very dissimilar from my lifestyle (at that time).
Still amazed how "accepted" I felt, and remember my time in Asheville fondly.

With some of the metal bands from that area. Super talented guys and gals. Once you get passed their look you quickly realize how nice they are. Shame some people won't give them a chance simply because how they look and choose to live their own lives.

Lots of the green haired hippy chicks need love too, just be sure to double wrap that rascal. When out on the Harley I always try and fake a breakdown around the Western Womens Correctional Facility. While it is a through the fence encounter, it is an amazing experience.

Is to keep this in Asheville and it NOT spreading to GVL, which has become a boom town Utopian kind of destination for many in the US. Had an Ashevillian tell me the place was great but went to "pot" the last ten years and he would hate to see GVL go that route. They're only an hour and a half apart.
