let's just say we are not hearing what is going on there. NC needs to send in Nat'l Guard or there will be some issues. If is getting bad and no signs of it getting any better.
He is going to try to get out tomorrow, so T's and P's he and his wife and 1 year old get safely away from the devastation and desperation that is going on there.
TIA.

At the risk of getting political, this is every bit as bad as Katrina, and the federal response is far, far less than it was in New Orleans. They need to get off theirass and send some help.
I really don’t think most of the country realizes just how bad it is. Coverage is negligible.

effectively blacked out since. Not even sure if news channels can get out there, much less broadcast. I'm guessing it's not even a fraction as bad as what we'v seen/heard and there is going to be some sad news slow rolling over the next week.

Wheres this water go? From a watershed / river system stand point, where does it all go?
Are other dams, waterways, river systems, etc gonna be exposed to problems as water continues to flow?

through the mississippi after hitting a few other rivers first. The downstream hydrograph will be much flatter as the water works down stream.

and west from there for sure.
They really have no idea of damage imo. Places without running water, like Grove Park Inn. People using pool water to flush toilets - we have a friend who lives in an apartment north of Asheville.
Over 1,000 well check requests because you cannot get in touch with anyone. Somehow they need to turn on satellite phone service for cell users - seems like the iPhone has some capabilities for that.

The area (lake Adger, lake lure) is completely devastated. Hartwell went from down over 10 feet to almost full pool. That’s a shiat ton of water in a few days!

Dammm- that's north Charlotte right?
The video I saw was screaming water....again part of why I asked y'all.
Know we got a few guys on here who more or less do this for a living in that area.

They closed the River Walk in Cayce, and the Congaree is flooding

pretty bad. That's because Lake Murray opened the flood gates. Son of and I saw them open as we crossed the ### Friday morning, they had one open, same as 2015. Lake Murray is having to open flood gates because Lake Greenwood is doing the same, and right up the watershed. So yeah, all of this water will flow downstream and cause flooding along rivers 100+ miles away and in lakes as well.
I was kind of surprised Dominion waited so long to open the Lake Murray flood gates. Usually they open them BEFORE a big rain event of flood to lower levels to have some capacity to accept water from Lake Greenwood and the Saluda river. This time I don't think they drew down the lake any until the storm hit.
They're expecting the Congaree to crest Monday at 31 feet. It crested at 32 feet in 2015. Then again the Congaree did NOT get the brunt of the river flooding as most rain was east of Columbia. The Wateree and Santee flooded a LOT more in 2015 than the Congaree.
https://www.thestate.com/news/local/article293229174.html
The Broad River will probably bring in the most water to the Congaree instead of the Saluda. Either way, the Congaree will have a major flood event.

Reason I asked my question is I've heard from locals the reason Nashville flooded so long ago was due to mismanagement of various dams up river. Rather big total system that needs to be managed pretty tight and no disrespect but the Core ain't got a great track record, at least in these parts...

Well, it takes several days for the water to flow downstream

But if the Congaree is peaking Monday evening, then that means areas upstream have already peaked, and downstream haven't. So yes, it takes some time for the water to flow downstream. And yes, you can have a domino effect if you don't manage waterways well.
Like in 2015, a bunch of friends of mine lost their houses around Lake Katherine in Columbia. What happened was a ### broke like 2-3 lakes upstream. That caused the Forest Lake ### to be breached, which then sent flood waters into Lake Katherine, which also had a ### failure, which then flooded Gills Creek which led to the one iconic flood scene we all saw from 2015. Below is a video of Gills "Creek", normally no more than 10 feet wide, and a babbling little creek. It became a raging river.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMXOCcYqVso
I grew up a mile from there. So it was like dominoes with one ### failing causing 2-3 others to fail, and massive flooding. Wife's uncle worked for SCANA at the time and they rushed equipment to keep another cascading ### failure from starting. We have a creek behind our house. I've paid careful attention to that creek and have followed it on maps for 20 miles until it disappears. There are two ponds on it with dams. Luckily there are only two small ponds dammed up, so if both failed, it would still not flood our house. But Lake Katherine was the bottom lake in a string of like 4-5 lakes, all with dams. And one failed after another and Lake Katherine dumps into Gills Creek, and that dumps into the Congaree. So it was a massive mess. Lake Katherine was at the bottom of the Gills Creek watershed, and there were several lakes that fed Gills Creek, which dumped into the Congaree.

Absolutely. I really hope they are able to get out tomorrow.
Niece and family were able to get down off the mountain to 64 today today on an ATV. It's been tense since we lost contact them. They made it to a shelter.
There is no way on God's green earth, with all the military bases in the Carolinas, that the skies should not be filled choppers and Ospreys right now bringing in food and supplies. But last time we heard from SIL or niece that wasn't the case. Angry old Uncle rant over.
