Daily Finebaum idiocracy

“I think these players could be making $10 million legally and the administrators would still call them kids.”

There’s your SEC perspective. Wanting to treat KIDS like objects for money. Y’all remember when y’all were 18? I sure remember not feeling like a true adult until I was well into my 20s. And obviously with things that have happened recently, it’s no doubt the correct thing to limit finances of NIL.

Funny, no one refers to an 18 year old serving in some garden spot like Afghanistan or Iraq as a kid. An 18 year old living the life of a rock star on a college campus is a kid, though.

I don’t know what goes on now, but in 1983 a 17 year old enlisted man could drink whatever he liked in the “Enlisted Man’s Club”.

Military ID? What can I get you? That was the process.

Wrong on that, Georgia Peach, people call the military kids 'kids' all the time. Ask any older guy serving, or ones that used to serve over there before your president called them home.

Well, I don't know what you mean by "older guy" but I served 20 years and never heard anyone of any age referred to as "kid." "Kid" excuses behavior.

Right now, there are no limits on NIL payments...

and therein lies the problem.

You may recall the recent Supreme Court decision in the O’Bannon case that ruled the NCAA improperly restricted student athletes from profiting from their NIL. Now that they let that horse out of the barn, it will be a real challenge to put it back IMO. To further compound the problem, you now have five or six different groups at work here: the NCAA, the State legislatures, Congress, the Supreme Court, the student-athletes and their attorneys who will sue immediately if any attempts are made to limit a student-athletes income potential.

What is needed are uniform guidelines that maintain the integrity of collegiate athletics. Recognizing and preserving athletes' rights to profit from NIL while ensuring competitive fairness which is what should have been done from the beginning.

They also need to put an end to the transfer portal nonsense. It's really simple, you get five years to play four. If you transfer, for whatever reason, you sit out one year before being eligible to play. It's simple and it's fair.

That said, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Unfortunately, I don't have any confidence they'll get it right this time either.

For the most part, it was being done in the beginning.

the richer teams could just buy all of the best players.

I'm surprised some pro player hasn't sued because he could be making $1 billion instead of "just" $500 million because of those restrictions..

I think the richer teams bust the cap and just pay the luxury tax.

So you are saying using a reasonable-respectful-accurate term for a collage age student athlete is important? Who knew?

Ya have to understand, Finebaum is paid by EsecPN to attract attention by making outlandish claims and statements. Also, he sleeps on a pullout trundle bed under the Sabans every night, so there's that....

I've actually seen some of my own fans defending this clown and his face is really permanently attached to Nick Saban's butt. Sad thing is, Foolbaum actually went to Tennessee, I've heard.

This is a guy that should be ignored and people actually watch that show. Unbelievable

I've always had trouble with this. "Kids" is used when we want it to serve a purpose. As in, "these poor kids are being taken advantage of while these universities are raking in millions" Or "these kids can't even go out and get a job like regular kids because of the time devoted to their sport". Since these "kids" are in fact, raking in all those millions now, and since they are "kids", should the millions not be in some sort of trust or better still, go to the parents?

We rejoice when we sign a 5-star "kid". Then yell and scream when that "kid" doesn't perform on the field to our liking. Someone is always there at the ready "Hey! They're just kids!"

Kids do dumb things. That's what kids do. When these "kids" do dumb things, the law doesn't view them as kids. The law views them as adults.

The truth is there as some 18-20 year olds that act responsibly as if they were....I don't know, adults.
Other 18-35 year olds act they're still 15. Millions of dollars doesn't make you an adult.
