not sure what exactly he is referring to (mechanics, playing out of system, etc) but trent dilfer says TLaw and DJ completely ruined by Streeter. hear for yourself

Sorry SammyDub, but just because a former QB works with HS'ers at an Elite 11 Camp does not come close to anointing T.Dilfer as some sort of super QB guru.
The REAL gurus work with Pro QBs to get them squared away when things go wrong.
T.Dilfer is a smart guy, but incredibly arrogant as his own success was due to having a TREMENDOUSLY talented team (esp. Defense) to put his team over the top in the Super Bowl.
Think of T.Bradshaw and his Super Bowl rings ... T.Bradshaw and the entire Steelers offense became Super Bowl legends because of the legendary Steel Curtain defense.
J.McMahon as QB of the 1985 Chicago Bears was another of those so so QBs that rode on the back of a super O-Line and some big play WRs ... and of course the Bears Monsters of Midway defense.
But Bradshaw and McMahon were far more talented and a better big play maker than the modestly talented and self-proclaimed QB guru T.Dilfer. But T.Dilfer is smart enough to get a cute gig for himself as a QB guru ... if not him then some other so-so ex-NFL QB would take the job.

This is such a dumb argument. Most of the best coaches were not hall of famers or even pro bowlers. Most of the elite coaches were bench warmers at best. Not being an elite player has nothing to do with how good of a coach you are.
The fact is neither you nor I know exactly how much of a qb “guru” he is because we don’t know the position like he does and haven’t lived it our entire life. But from what I can see is he’s done some pretty good things with these qbs and they say he has.

His resume as a player makes no difference, neither do your opinions of him as a coach or QB critic. What matters is that he has an audience with top high school QB’s who heed his advice. Perception is reality and your opinion on Trent Dilfer carries no weight in that circle. This has the potential to do some damage in recruiting.

He’s not wrong, T Law was just so talented it made up for it. Look at his freshman year and compare it to his junior year he definitely didn’t get better but like I said his natural talent just made up for it. Everyone calling for TE job when the absolute first change should be Qb coach

I posted DW4 and TL16 Clemson stats last night and TL improved his QB Rating each year while at Clemson. Dilfer has never seen DJ in a uniform in front of 50,000+ crazy fans and 300 pounders coming at him (except from a distance on TV). Dilfer has only seen him in shorts playing catch. Do you think there may be a hidden advertisement for his elite camp somewhere in his rant.

Quite possibly wouldn’t put it past him, his interception rate also went up each year, I’m not just talking about statistically either. The best TL we saw was his freshman year, TLs pure talent is enough to cover up for any short comings really. Dj also played in front of a packed house in ND last year with 300lbers coming after him and broke records he looks totally different. But none of us know if that’s on him or coaching. My personal opinion is before letting go of TE we should get a certified QB genius to work with QBs. We are consistently in the running for the nations best QBs and if they keep regressing the way DJ has they might change which none of us want. My personal opinion can also be a hundred percent wrong truth is none of us know anything really, we aren’t in the building with the guys

I don't disagree something needs to be done.
TL had 4 INTs in 2018 with 11 starts, 8 INTs in 2019 with 15 starts, and 5 INTs in 2020 with 10 starts. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Not only did his QBR go up each year, his completion percentage also went up. 90 TD Passes to 17 INTs ain't to shabby. On the other hand DW went backwards and finished with 90 TD Passes to 32 INTs.

Exactly and why was DW4 (and even TL16 at times) forcing the ball? I don't know why, but I can guarantee Dilfer and everyone here that Dabo, Scott, Elliott nor Streeter were telling any QB to force the ball.

I think Dilfer only cares about his wallet and the money he gets from his camps. When did anyone on TNet (besides the reporters) and/or Dilfer go to a Tiger Coaches meeting, QB position meeting, film review or even a practice to see what is going on with the QBs? My guess is none. If there is a problem with any of the coaches, I'll leave that up to Dabo and no one from the outside.
All Dilfer is saying is that I'm smarter than Dabo so send your little QBs to my camps and don't forget to safety pin that big fat check to his T-Shirt.
Now don't get me started on the stale archaic playbook and OL recruiting!

Thanks for the smart reply. Agree with most of what you're saying and that Dilfer no doubt likes to build his brand.
Still, I believe Dilfer, as a 1st round draft pick and average NFL QB, understands the QB position better than Dabo and T.E. (two 3rd string college recvrs).

That is incorrect, TL16 progressed significantly.
Each year he was better and not only that but becoming more and more efficient at the higher level is a lot more challenging.

How is DL development down? Or RB? What's down at WR is talent level.
And maybe the difference between Trevor's freshman year, when he had a veteran OL and was throwing to Higgins, a healthy Ross, Renfrow and Amari was that his junior year he had a poor OL and just Amari and Powell.
Dilfer knows nothing of the situation

I think the first two are crazy. Clemson's defensive line is still elite despite missing key pieces the past few weeks. Clemson has 3 incredible running backs, two of whom I think are NFL potential (which I did not think Etienne was, despite how amazing he was in college). The wide receivers are questionable with all the drops, but I put that largely on DJ for rocketing nothing but bullets at them, and we've had a ton of injuries at that position.

That a pretty strong statement and I’d hope he wouldn’t say that unless he feels like he’s 100% accurate about it. Definitely not a ringing endorsement for future QB recruits to see.
In my opinion TLaw has his best year as a Fr. Maybe multiple reasons for that

DW4, by the numbers, was/is one of the top two QBs in his draft. He may prove to be the best in his draft class over the long-term.
At ~350 YPG, last year’s passing attack was the best in Clemson history.
I trust that our staff knows what they are doing.

I mean, Dilfer is telling the truth…
Oct 24, 2021, 10:31 PM

Streeter is only a playbook installation coach, he’s not a capable of truly developing QB talent.
Trevor’s footwork and mechanics regressed every year he was here. In his final season he had developed a weird “falling back” throwing motion that messed with his accuracy and ball placement. The Jags basically had to reprogram Trevor when he got there.
DW4 was smart and didn’t take any chances with Streeter, he sought an outside QB coach (Quincy Avery) as soon as Dabo named Streeter our QB coach. Kelly Bryant did the same.
Maybe DJU can find and work with an outside QB coach, and possibly reverse the damage.

Our QBs' fundamentals get progressively worse the longer they are in the program. They come in doing a lot of things well and after 2-3 years they drift out of the back of the pocket, stare down receivers, hesitate to make decisions, etc etc.
Maybe we should hire experienced coaches.

I remember hearing something last summer about "working on DJ's footwork and throwing motion" and Streeter being involved. To me, if the biggest difference between DJ last year and this are the "tweaks" then we need to fire the tweaker.
The passing game is in shambles, and is a total embarrassment. That's on the "passing game coordinator"
I know Dabo is circling the wagons to protect recruiting, but sooner or later, we'll start losing the 5 stars and 4 stars because the program is down. You think Kirby and his ilk talked us down before? Now they have evidence.
