They can put a walk-on on scholarship this year, and then give it to a recruit next year.
They'd likely give it to a senior/graduating walk-on, and if not, they can give it to someone and take it back after the year. After all, can someone who was paying his own way really complain about getting 1 year paid for?

A lot of players have bolted recently. I wonder what the deal is? It could be a move to free up scholarships. I know we all hate this! Maybe it's ok when Dabo does it though? I'm sure dad would have wanted him to stick around.

and love, his scholly wasn't pulled or cancelled to create room for oversigns. He simply chose not to play football anymore and gave it up. I wouldn't expect you to understand the difference.

pull scholarships because they state the players aren't giving their all to the program. There's a ton of gray area there but I've never seen any admit pulling a scholarship just to make room.

Just checked some other places on the web

and it looks like he told CDS that he "just doesn't want to play football anymore".
Couldn't C&P as everything I saw was something you had to pay for. I saw it in google returns.

This article is kind of ambiguous...

The headline makes it sound like the kid's football career is over, but the actual article sounds more like he's just done with Clemson and will be choosing another school.
Which is it?

Football is a hard game. If the family has plenty of money, the motivation isn't really strong.

grind and effort that it takes to play at a high level in college.
The first time you find out that you aren't the strongest guy on the team, or the biggest badace, it sometimes causes a man to pause for reflection.

I have seen them play and they don't have many reserves. They often whip large public schools and the best teams in their league each season are usually among the best teams in NC.
