Private vs Public school Benefits
Jun 23, 2017, 4:24 PM

TD2Wife wants to consider sending our elementary aged kids to private school here in Columbia-SC. What's been your experience sending kids to a private versus public school?
Did they go to better colleges or have more scholarships? Make better connections? Have special needs that were better served in a private school setting?
I don't see a huge benefit at the elementary age, but might change my mind as they get older. Have plenty of neighbors that paid >$10k/yr for 12 years, but then kid only attends Coastal Carolina. Seems like a complete waste.

I went to private school for K-8. I went to a public high school after. I was never that great of a student, but when I got to public HS it was easier than private school in 6th grade. It felt like I was on vacation. On the other hand, I started to get a little more out of control once I went to public HS. It could have just been my age though.

You make friends here first by not posting attacks in every response you make.
Then you attack.

Don't you love your children? Sorry for the mange response.
No experience with private school but I've heard good things. Both of our children have home schooled as well as attended public school. In my limited experience, what ever you choose has its own benefits. In the end, both of my children were different and had completely different experiences. I found that regardless of what system we chose, a standard in regards for expectations had to be clearly laid out. I did find that with the public school my children attended, they were used by the teachers for stability in the class room. I guess this is okay, except I didn't send my kids to school to teach. I sent them to learn, and eat lunch, and bring home butt loads of unreasonable homework, and talk about the uncontrolled classroom atmosphere, and ask if it was okay for another boy to show his peanus to you when the kindergarten teacher wasn't looking, and to have the teacher tell me that since my oldest son was the biggest kid in the classroom that she stuck him at the table with the little irritating bully because all the other kids were scared of the punk and she thought that he could serve as a huge distraction to my son's education...
Nevermind, public school worked for me, but it wasn't working for my boys.

Kids of go to private school through middle school (8th)

Depends on the school. Catholic school is more disciplined. Classes are maintained and behaved. Also our school works ahead of the pace of public school. This benefits the student for a year or two heading into high school. 9Th grade was a breeze for my son, it was pretty much repeat info. Also my 5 year old started kindergarten below the spectrum and also had severe dyslexia. Literally would spell here name backwards elleirb instead of Brielle. She is now in advanced reading. Seems to be paying off for us.
