Oklahoma NIL

All football players will be able to earn $50,000 per year through an NIL collective. I never thought there would be anything to make me dislike college football, but they sure are trying.

I can’t figure out where $$$ is coming from. No reduction in salaries, etc. same student athlete benefits. At Clemson where are we getting another revenue stream?

The money is private. Has nothing to do with the schools. However, it does appear the schools may be working as an intermediary between the collectives and the “students”, or at least could be without penalty. If those even exist anymore.

It’s just out in the open now.
Some people are fooling themselves thinking this is new as they desperately try to cling to the fantasy that college sports was “amateur” in some way. It wasn’t.
Same for the ridiculous term “student athlete.” Look up who insisted that term be used and why. There’s no such thing.
Adapt or get left in the dust whining about the good ole days.

Here’s who came up with the ridiculous term “student athlete” and why. Read this and ask yourself how pure and genuine that term sounds now. Or…keep kidding yourself.

I don’t understand why people are investing so much money in football I stead of charities or they own businesses. Seems like big bets for watching some team you like to win with no real return on investment, aside from emotional highs. I guess the donors feel like they caused the team to win since it was their money.

i like the idea of players getting paid, lots of work involved, could improve the game, incentive to show up, work hard, improve skills
could make a HS kid work harder, study more, graduate on time
could increase the number of excellent players available
more money for the family, generates tax revenue
i struggle to see the downside yet

What does Oklahoma have to do with this? They were cheating since the days of Bud Wilkerson, only now it’s legal. You guys act like it’s something new and even Clemson has done it. Do you fellas even follow the sport of college football? Alabama has won dozens of national championships by paying recruits to come to that hole in the wall ######## named Tuscaloosa and now saban is crying about NIL. Such hypocrisy I have never seen

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying you act like it's something new and it's not. You clearly don't know what happened at SMU. I am not in anyway promoting that prostitution should be legal.

Not buying college football has legalized the same thing that has been going on for years. Maybe with some particular players for sure but no where near to what is going on now. Someone mentioned not seeing the downside. Stick around for a few years and let’s find out what happened to the good ole days and we can revisit this topic.
All players are basically free agents every year with no cap. What could possibly go wrong? On another note get used to a certain number of schools able to win the national championship because they happened to have the funds.

The petro wealth gives OU, OSU, Texas a huge advantage.

That's one of the reasons even coaches of questionable character such as Kiffin are speaking out against NIL and the portal.
Schools with huge NIL advantages include: OU, OSU, TX, TAMU - oil money ND - Catholics BYU - Mormons Bama - because they've always only cared about football and have a relatively wealthy, relatively big alum base. Interestingly, Clemson's endowment is bigger than Bama's. Florida Miami Michigan Ohio State Penn State
