The thing about CFB nowadays

is you cant just be a good coach, you have to be a good businessman. Being able to coach and recruit was all there was to college football back before NIL/portal. Nowadays it just feels like a mini NFL. I want the old days back. I think majority of real college football fans do to. Why is no one doing anything about it?

What are we supposed to do?.....SCOTUS ruled that players can be compensated and that was the start of all this mess. You can't put the toothpaste back in the bottle

University presidents and BOTs should have read the writing on the wall and been proactive in developing a structure to pay players while protecting the integrity of the sport. They chose to do nothing except collecting big checks while some judge wrote the rules which introduced chaos into the mix.

Football is the same great game it always has been if you simply accept that rosters are filled differently than in years past. Turn your sound off, watch any game from last year and then watch games from past years and the game is exactly the same game with great plays made by great athletes.

In the past, when players came to Clemson, they came for four years. They wanted to be here, they had pride for being here. A lot of the players parents I met on numerous occasions. Played blackjack with them year after year at bowl games. Sat beside them in the stands for game after game after game. I am still friends with some of them.
In my opinion, it's just not like that anymore. Sure the X's and O's are the same, but the atmosphere is what made college great and that is dying by the day. As he said, it's just a mini NFL now.
I agree it's not completely gone at Clemson, mainly because we have one of the most stable rosters in the country. Thanks to Dabo, but I doubt he can maintain that forever. The atmosphere isn't and will never be the same. Thats unfortunate.

Because the university presidents and boards of trustees...

.... have eagerly embraced the model of the primary purpose of collegiate football and basketball is to be the minor league for the NFL and NBA.
Academic requirments are non-existant. The courts have ruled that players must be paid. The courts have ruled that players can transfer without penalty.
And, the universities have said, "Academics are irrelevant."
There is a simple way to fix it. Adopt the rule I have written below. It would not restrict the players transferring or getting paid. But, it would put academic requirements ON THE SCHOOLS who recruit them - either out of high school or through the portal. Quincy Quarterback can transfer to any school that will take him. But, who will take him.
Rule: Any athlete who participates in a sport at any school and leaves that school without earning a degree from that school counts as a scholarship for that school for the next four years after leaving.
Schools can recruit as many portal transfers or one-and-doners as they want to. The question is, are they willing to pay the price for recruiting them?

To use Trevor Lawrence as an example of this rule, Clemson recruits 5 star Lawrence who, is destined for the NFL after 3 years. He may or may not have completed his degree by the time he chooses to become pro. If he coesn't, Clemson is saddled with Lawrence's scholarship for an additional 4 years. Sincere question - how does this resolve issues associated with NIL or the portal? Seems all this does is punish the school for recruiting a super talented player who eveyone on planet earth knew at the time of his recruitment was only going to be on campus for three 3 years. Maybe I've misunderstood you idea.

Rules and guidelines need to be established before the wild west breaks out in college sports. Establish a new board to manage the guidelines and enforce penalties for violations.
Yeah… the ncaa once did that .

A new study should be done regarding the portal/nil system as to what % of the transfer/nil players are completing qualified course work, maintaining gpa’s and earning real degrees.

Time to get off the moral high ground and play the game with the new rules. It’s a different day and it will “never” be the same.
We need changes but any changes will be slow to come.
My focus now is on game day … that, they can not take from me nor change.
