Just my opinion.....the discussion of a lack of talent shouldn't even be a discussion. This is what the high priced coaches should be working every day to fix. Pull out all the stops....have open tryouts on campus if need be, fully develop what we have, do whatever is necessary so this is not an issue. Otherwise what is the real value of a co-ordinator who is paid $2M/year?

Your opinion is wrong. Dude was brought in after signing day so he couldn't recruit and the portal was pretty much closed. Also not allowed to fire the previous staff. You think Clemson's student body is crawling with NFL talent?

No, I don't. I was simply making a point that filling the talent gap should be the coaches/co-ordinators primary responsibility and sometimes they might have to get a little creative to fill those gaps. For sure, there is a lot of developmental work that needs to be done. With the right coaching, the one and two-stars can improve to three and four-stars. If you sit around and let excuses drive you - like a deadline has passed - nothing will happen. And opinions are just that - opinions. They are not wrong.
I remember in the late '70s when there was a desperate need for a kicker and they found one on the soccer team - Obed Ariri - who turned out to be very successful, And grabbing Jonathan Weitz off the beach was a creative way of filling the need for a kicker this year. And as well as I remember, Hunter Renfrow didn't show up to Clemson with a scholarship. Sometimes talent shows up in very non-traditional ways and the coaches should be exploiting every venue possible when they don't have the perfect team already.

You are living in fantasy land. The problem is simple. We don't have explosive players at receiver. You can't "develop" that. You simply have to get explosive players to have explosive plays.
Hopefully, the recruits coming in next year are just that.

I'll expand on that. We are terrible at WR and not much better at tight end. Listened to Riley and the board tell me for the past 8 months that Bstool was going to be a difference maker and a matchup nightmare. He had a grand total of 1 catch for 3 yards against the #116 pass defense in the country. He's basically been a bust (as have all but T Brown who is average) and his blocking is what you would expect from a 232 lb TE. But back to the lack of talent. Is there anyone on the defensive side of the ball that could play both ways? Have we tried them? Nate Wiggins? K Barnes? Ken Hatfield converted a D back to QB in one week of practice and beat the Chickens in Willie B with Dexter McCleon running his flexbone. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. We have not done that as I am 100% certain that we have better options at WR than Ronan Hanafin on the defensive side of he ball. That is on the staff.

You're better off having Nate Wiggins put 100% effort in playing solid defense, than trying a gimmick of playing him on offense, where you get minimal return on your investment.

Absolutely untrue. Keon Coleman transferred from Michigan state and went to FSU. Could a game winning TD against us. Happened in April. He could’ve been a game-changer for us but didn’t happen because of our anti-portal philosophy

Keon Coleman was never coming here. He isn't coming here where the quarterback is a first year starter, and there are no other weapons around him. Florida St. had a 5th year quarterback, and a bunch of other weapons to occupy rhe defense.

Your certainly in the majority. They are average roll players or back ups at best on most power 5 teams. They lack foot speed and many other things as well and certainly could never qualify as difference makers. Neither will play at the next level and next level WR's are what we desperately lack.

The offense had talent and execution problems for sure. Injuries were also problematic with the Oline and the WR positions. However, Coaching was suspect at times.
The stupid screen passes not only didn’t get yards, they continually lost 5 yards and put us behind the chains. Why keep running them. The let’s get fancy when steadily getting 3 to 4 yards on downhill runs at the end of games is also frustrating.

I had to look at author of this post because I thought I wrote it. Couldn’t agree more, especially with the screen pass that hasn’t worked in 3 years. Our WR either can’t or won’t block, without that block, the play gets blown up every time.

At TCU i thought his offense was solid, but very simple. One solid wr and a QB that was a one man wrecking crew. Nothing that special as far as scheme. Its kind of like when we had Woody Dantzler. Any fast D shuts it down.

Absolutely…why wouldn’t we give an OC that moved the offense down 4 spots another year…I mean we fired the guy that moved it up 53 spots in one year…but let’s keep him…makes total sense!
Oh wait, I forgot he needs to be able to bring in his old coaches… Just like Streeter did… Not!
Or no wait… It’s because he needs to bring in more talented players… Even though he had the same players we had last year and he did worse.

With his OL coach, his WR coach, his QB coach, his TE coach, his RB coach, his offensive analysts, his WR recruits, his TE recruits and his OL recruits. Swinney can give Riley carte blanche responsibility & authority for the Offense or Clemson and Riley should move on ... meaning Riley can keep current staff or let them go.

Riley doesn't have an OL coach,WR coach, or any other coach. Coordinators don't have "their own staff." There is literally not one school in the country where the coordinator is the one bringing in the staff.

It’s Dabo still being too involved in play calling, and it’s coaching (mostly OL). Dabo needs to let Riley coach and hire his own staff.
It’s the coaching:
Our OL has higher rated players than almost everyone we play, and they get dominated. The run into each other like the keystone cops, and miss assignments in game 12!!!
Receivers:
Terrible at blocking (which is the only way screens work). They get open, but Cade doesn’t see it ‘cause he doesn’t trust the OL. Drops, drops, drops.
Strength and conditioning:
Terrible. We are never ready at the start of the season. NEVER! It’s like they have the same plan for everyone (power lifting). Every person needs an individualized program. We constantly get slower, fatter and that tells me that people are on the wrong program. When XT and DJU (the starting QB) got fat and slow until their $$ year; that tells me that there is no accountability in staying fit.
Ever wonder why we get these stud freshmen that fizzle out (and everyone calls them a bust), until the next stud freshman comes in and does the same?? Because their high school coaches were better than our staff. They come in playing awesome, and we just drag them down into the Clemson mire.

No talent. Receivers are the worst we have had in decades. Except for brown. Offensive line is pure mashed potatoes. Those are the two main problem positions. I think cades problems will resolve themselves with a new o line and new receiving core.
