This past weekend I received "the call". Our Varsity coach asked if I would make the jump from JV to varsity mid season to work with his defense the rest of the year. This is the call that most JV assistants hope and pray will come as being an assistant Varsity coach is very near the pinnacle of the coaching tree. It felt good.
After hanging up the phone, I sat in my recliner and reflected on the experiences of the 2023 season. I thought about all of the players on the JV team that I have bonded with over the course of the summer and season. All of the hours of film, coaching, game planning, practice and research. The pre game meals, the optimism of the bus rides to the games, and the joy or defeat of the bus rides home. It became clear just how much we had accomplished and experienced as a team.
And while we never know what the future may hold, today I notified the Varsity coach that I will finish this season the way I started it, as a JV coach.

to just stay where you are currently planted.
Especially considering anything JV related needs to stay JV related, no need for progression from those ranks as you have already officially "arrived"

I mean, while building it is always a process that centers around some failure, but also some success. Where are you currently on that ladder ??

So which position players have the best fighting record as I know you promote team fighting as a method to toughen up the players? I mean, I really agree with this philosophy as I don't see how giving everyone an A+ is really beneficial in growth as that means they reached the pinnacle.

I commend you on setting a fine example for the youngsters. Hopefully this will dissuade them from jumping into the JV transfer portal for the highest bidder or mythical greener pastures.

too quickly and enjoy the ride. Once you have been to the top of the mountain like me, it can be hard to live down your prior accomplishments.
