yesterday at Clemson. This is something we have been encouraging with our JV team for several weeks now. At first it was frustrating, because the players got along pretty well, so we had to introduce problems that we knew would turn the players against one another. Now we have several fights each practice, which we never break up until there is a clear winner. The uptick in fights tells me this could be a special season.

Tried and true method was to put some BenGay in there jock straps and then blame it on another player! That usually gets them fired up literally!

Just if you needed any ideas? Rumor is FM does handle their straps daily, part of the coaches only meetings.

Fights typically go on for 20-30 seconds, but several have lasted a minute or more. We typically see the fights start small, but we will subtly remind the players not involved that they should stand up for their favorite players, especially if someone from their position group is involved. We try to use this a bonding moment for those groups.

Are the parents allowed to fight each other off field; assuming their kids are locked in an on field tussle?

I met a nice youg gentleman who represented a group of young women interested in working with members of our team. I thought this would be a great way to build confidence for our young men. Initially, it cost only a few hundred dollars per visit, which I gladly paid. The new enthusiasm with the players was worth it. Within a couple of weeks, the cost was over $1000. We were winning every game! The local sherriff, who I am convinced was a family member of a team we had beat, came by after a practice and put me in jail for a year, however. Our team has not won a game since then. Talk about rivalries and jealous parents!! SMH

encourages fighting to sort out the depth chart on day 1. You can tell if a guy really wants a spot on the roster if he is willing to choke out another player, we just let it go and the last few guys standing are the starters. So far this has worked out well, and of course, unlike American football, the Chinese League allows defenders to kick players to initiate a tackle, just as long as they use the side of the foot and not the toe, that is a 15-yard penalty and 10 minutes inside the penalty cage.
