Definition of facemask penalty.

I confess, I don't know. I do know that it seems that anytime a facemask is touched it is called. But, I found this explanation in an article posted in 2016. If this description is accurate, then what we saw last night was not a facemask. The Nole defender slid his had across the facemask but did not "grap, pull, twist" or anything else with it.
And, I suspect that the ref got lucky on the no call and just didn't see the contact.
******** Unlike the high school rules, the NCAA rules book does allow brief or incidental contact to the facemask that does not include twisting or turning. The NCAA rule makes clear that simple grasping is not sufficient to draw a penalty — there has to be more than just fingers to the facemask:
“It is not a foul if the facemask, chin strap or helmet opening is not grasped and then twisted, turned or pulled.” +++++++++

That wasn't enough to call a penalty with the new rule. That was exactly how it's supposed to be called/not called

Nah . Hand slid across but didn’t grip or pull it. Good no call.

Wrong. In the NCAA and NFL, twisting and turning is key Unlike the high school rules, the NCAA rules book does allow brief or incidental contact to the facemask that does not include twisting or turning. The NCAA rule makes clear that simple grasping is not sufficient to draw a penalty — there has to be more than just fingers to the facemask:
“It is not a foul if the facemask, chin strap or helmet opening is not grasped and then twisted, turned or pulled.” Note: If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.”

No need for Nole fans to pander to the haters and explain anything.

You and I both know that the “face mask” play never should’ve happened. Florida’s drive was over on the phantom PI call.

Makes me almost wish "Called" Pass Interfence could be reviewed. Maybe even in the last Quarter penalties do need reviewed?

Hats off to the Noles and they appear to be getting back offensively but defense needs work.I like their QB..he is good and very allusive. As far as the face-mask I agree with the no penalty and it didn't stop the QB are disrupt his attempt to complete a pass.

I expect that to be called. But glad they didn’t bail them out with it.
Similarly, the PI should have been left alone.
All things considered, it worked out ok though
