It’s one of those rarely enforced laws. Faking anything is “unsporting behavior” and can be carded. The Futbol world has lost control of this particular area of the game in my opinion. It’s the same as holding, pass interference or targeting in an SEC game. It’s happening all game every game, it’s just not called unless the favorite needs help.

in futbol, you can be red carded for faking. I've actually seen a couple of players in the box get yellow-carded for diving. I've never seen a football player assessed a penalty for faking an injury, so we still have some room to go here.

It's usually used as a tactical respite during the course of the game to do something like change the rhythm/momentum at a particular point in time, give a team time to catch their breath (no timeouts in soccer), give a referee an opportunity to make a decision like a make-up call for example, waste time/kill the game off depending on the situation, etc. Since the referee can't prove an injury is legitimate, or not, it always causes a stoppage in play.

you act like this isn't done in every other sport. Have you ever watched basketball?. . . you can't even touch someone. Soccer is definitely a rough contact sport. Unfortunately you get a lot of embellishment like you do in any other sports when players are trying to draw fouls. I think it would get snuffed out quicker if you saw more cards for embellishment. Embellishment also fluctuates based on who you're watching. Some do and some don't. Not everyone considers it part of the game. Watch videos of Carles Puyol https://youtu.be/LeXaUeIDkNg , He was a great ambassador of fair play in La Liga where you see a good amount of thosse issues.

While watching one of the shows on ESPN, a couple ex-SEC football players didn't deny they used fake injuries to slow down the offense. They even said their teams had code words which meant to fake hurt to stop the game.

Sadly, it has now permeated all sports.

In america our sports have salary caps, in Europe they just let Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester clubs, Liverpool etc just crush everyone and buy whoever they want. No semblance of equality at all

show a player "taking a dive" faking an injury to save a timeout, or slow down the opposition, it doesn't get flagged as unsportsmanlike conduct, which it clearly is.
