All that matters is we are winning . Dabo...the greatest coach we've ever had at Clemson. Yes he's above my Clemson idol...Danny Ford...Frank Howard too .

Coach, I don't mind the run game.......
Nov 2, 2016, 12:34 PM
|
|
in fact, I'd like to see more of it....... but I'd also like to see some bigger holes that provide longer yardage on some of those runs. OK?
All's good as long as we keep winning - just don't stop trying to open those holes, OK?
Thanks, Coach!

It's not the philosophy that I have an issue with. It's the mind numbing decisions that venebles and the defense have to bail us out on.

I agree... for example, the other day...we're at the 6 yd line with a 2nd and 3 with a first down at the 2 yd line. What do we do? 2 straight in-complete passes and settle for a freaking FG. ugh!!!! #21

What isn't happening IMO, on offense the calls aren't exactly what the defense is giving us. In the FSU game the middle of the field was wide open, and there were more plays run up the gut of the of the defense or, down the side lines with the bomb. There were passes made to look easy in the middle to Leggett and Scout. IMO those are the plays that won the game. Each to there own and that's my opinion. Even though we all have an opinion, I don't think that no one opinion is better than everyone else's in different situations. My only opinion is that we should always take what a defense is willing to give up until they decide to cut that off, but when they do, there will be slack given up somewhere else, and when that happens, target that space!!!

Using the jumbo package every short yardage or goal line situation at the 1 would be smart play calling.

yardage, I think to myself "what do I NOT know?" It doesn't make sense to stop using this until someone proves they can stop it.
Anyone have any arguments against this thought?

Dabo says, it isn't playing fast always. And it isn't about how many plays you run. It's quite simple...."points". And averaging 36 PPG isn't bad, but it isn't elite. Glad we're winning, but this post isn't about that....it's gaging our offense. And IMO, they have under achieved.

I don't think we need all the 'eye candy,' we needed...

three years ago. We're getting ready to play against teams that are deeper on defense than the average ACC team. You can't wear those defenses down by running them hard without your defense suffering greatly from their extended time on the field due to a few quick three and outs.
We're getting ready to deal with much more powerful offenses than we see during the regular season, offenses which knock you off the ball and run over you, run around you or throw over your head. I mean Bama.

Well Dabo the talent this O has and we have struggled to move the ball for big chunks of time. In just about every game this season. IMO the coaches are over thinking the play calling instead of just staying with what's worked. Then we find ourselves in need of a TD and it's go back to what was working.

I too think the play calling has become very predictable and will lead to more punts and interceptions because the defense knows what is coming based on the offensive set. That quick pass to the edge with one blocker has been close to being intercepted the last couple of games and Deshawn's QB designed runs are not netting much these days just like those long passes on first down. Keep the passes short and quick to keep those drives going to the end zone.... Go Tigers!

Our play calling is good outside of the red zone
Nov 2, 2016, 4:37 PM

We struggle inside the red zone. We have the last few years and this year its just magnified a bit. We have the jumbo package now that seems to help some, but it seems like we need a few more wrinkles in the red zone to have more success. Especially from 5-15 yards out.

I'll bet that smarter play calling had nothing to do with us needing an absolute miracle to pull off a win against NCST in DV. That play calling had nothing to do with Bambard missing a 33 FG to win the game at the end of regulation. I bet Dabo is talking about the time out he called to freeze the kicker as the smarter play calling bc, Bambard missing that FG is the only thing that saved our teams A$S. That and Dabo calling a smarter timeout to freeze the NCST kicker, after he had already missed missed 1 FG and had 1 blocked on the day!!! That's right, NCSTs FG kick was 1 of 4 on the day in FGs!!!
