This will likely be the 4th year in a row we do not make the playoffs.
There is some real question about the talent coming in the door in this new era of NIL/ Portal.
Some real question as to whether Wes G is just a great analyst or can he actually develop and coach a defensive unit.

While also..
Bama is a two loss team, and very well could be 3 (see coots game)
Georgia , while they smacked us, could very well be a 2 or 3 loss game (if FLA starting QB doesn’t go down, and see Kentucky game )

Is our trajectory doom and gloom comparatively?

There's something in these hills.

It is not gloom and doom

Everything is cyclical. There is no team in the history of college football that has avoided the lows. Many of those blaming NIL/Portal today were blaming Joey Batson, Tony Elliott, etc… a few years ago.

I think what we are seeing is a reality of college football now.

The current NIL and the "transfer at will" culture has created an environment where traditional powerhouse teams have to fight tooth and nail to keep depth on their rosters. Kids will not sit around and wait anymore if they have someone starting ahead of them in the same class or lower. In most of those scenarios they move on to greener pastures where they can start (and rightfully so in some cases).

That removes experienced depth from a team. So when you have an injury, or have to play a backup, they now tend to be true freshman, or a red-shirt that has never seen the field. This creates inconsistency in depth positions. Also, it creates vulnerabilities in position groups (Clemson's DE position recently with this last game) that cannot be "hidden" and can easily be exploited by opposing teams. There is a reason that for some time in college ball Freshman just did not start....then they started using it as a recruiting tool, but that is a different story.

So, no not a huge reason to panic, but coaching and roster management will be the keys for any elite team moving forward. And I think one of the reasons we are now seeing a huge amount of inconsistency throughout college football right now.

If you don't believe me, look at Army and Navy this year. You cannot transfer in, or out of either of those schools and they have had very successful years this year due to coaching and decent depth, because they don't have to worry about kids transferring out.....
