Quick question for the experts. If our O-Line is

If our O-Line is questionable; why is D.J. Reader switching to Defense right off the bat (no pun intended). He is huge, and played OL in High School... I realize we have some incoming talent in Guillermo, Region, Norton, Maybank, etc. But, we don't project to need help on the defensive side as much as the offensive side. We moved Shatley over, why would we do the opposite for Reader? P.S. I really hope to see him on the mound! That will be an awesome sight!

It is just how we evaluated him

Coaches believe that he will be better at DT than OG
Also, just to clarify something. Maybank is a DT, he does not play OL

is 'questionable' from a 'talent' standpoint, but from a lack of game experience; reader's not helping you there.

Help

I think we need more help at tackle vs. the interior line.
-This year may be tough, Kalon Davis, Giff Timothy have a lot to prove. Shatley as well but he is more of an athlete instead of a soft teddy bear like most of our o line is. If they succeed we will have nice depth for those positions for 3 years (except shatley who is a sr?)
In the future though we are set at center with UA All American Jay Guillermo. Pat Destefeno another UA all american can play RT in my opinion if we need, but is better suited for guard. Throw in Spencer Reigon who is HUGE, too big though. Coaches need to get on him, he was another UA all american but at 360 lbs he is going to get eaten alive.
-Issiah Battle is the key to our future Oline success, 6'7 260 true freshman, if he can grow into a good LT we can be fine, and add Tyrone Crowder, Droogsma or whatever recruits we need.
SO BASICALLY....I am more concerned for this year, than I am for the future years.

I think we have recruited fairly well in the offensive line area. I would like to see Battle as a starter at left tackle and Thomas at left guard. That would give us some depth. We lost Smith, Walker, McClain, and the big left tackle whose name I am forgetting(Phillip maybe?). I think that most of these guys are replaceable as none were drafted by the NFL. The right tackle spot is a huge concern, I really hope that Gore or McClain can secure this spot.
