His epic speech at the end of that movie and direct speak to "Happy", the big booster, has pretty becoming the swan song for college athletic and definitely college football.
That movie is over 30 years old now and does it ever continue to resonate strongly. With each new day comes more and more disappointing news. No longer is it about collegiate athletics and education, it is simply $$$$ and greed. Yes college football revenue is at an all time high, BUT that is based on completely insane TV deals and completely insane ticket prices to see games, along with overpriced concessions and jerseys. I get capitalistic ideals and believe in it, but at some point it becomes numb and excessive and this is where I feel the sport has lost the pageantry/excitement on Gameday.
I am sure I am in the minority and nobody may give a rotten cent for my thought/thoughts. For me, this entire NIL/college football landscape is changing my thoughts on the sport. I am all for young men being paid, they are the reason people tune in/buy tickets by the millions every weekend, but it just seems out of control. Regulations are a good thing sometimes, especially when it involves rich people paying young people for services rendered. Sounds a little too familiar to some other national news with elite rich people. Get it under control quickly or else more people like Phil Knight with Oregon might decide to just simply dump huge money in attempts to buy championships and lure players who have 0/nada/no interest in playing for them other than $$$$. Young people, be careful when making decision based solely on money.

Colleges and universities have a special set of entrance requirements for top athletes because they know good sports teams help make the school money. So rather than making sure athletes have academic resumes on par with non-athletes, the standards are lowered significantly. Moreover, they get special tutors and testing accommodations, not to mention majors which are considered more "athlete-friendly."
It's all a huge scam that devalues college education. It hasn't truly been about academics for quite some time - at least not as much as it should've been.
And yes, I realize that Clemson does better than just about every other university when it comes to athlete GPAs and graduation rates. I'm very proud of that. But it's still within the confines of a system that devalues education and prioritizes athletics.

Clemson places value on academics and achievement in classroom which I am also proud to see/hear/know.
All I want to see is some type of regulation implemented and actually monitored, not just words. There is a way it can be done but somebody in the NCAA needs to get their heads out of their butts(which is not happening) and start a very long and tedious process of how to regulate NIL.
It is probably far too late now that boosters who have always paid players can now openly say they will pay what it takes to win titles.
My hope is that Phil Knight could lose all his money chasing this dream, along with every other big booster and their visions of championships based on spending more that anyone else.
Clemson wins a championship this year, it will become my favorite because of the dynamic shift with NIL recruitment which Clemson has not and does not plan to take part in with CDS. We shall see, big dream I know but Clemson might just have the horses in the stable to get it done this season....nobody knows for sure

No 3rd party has the legal right to interfere in 2 other entities legal business deals.

Greed on the part of the conferences.
Greed in the part of the schools.
Now the athletes are getting some money and the same freedom of movement that every other student has, and suddenly THEY are greedy???

Number 1 dk, NIL is for all athletes, men and, women and in all probability, some female athletes are likely the highest paid. When football season starts, NIL has changed nothing because there will still be blocking, kicking and tackling and the game will be same as it was 50 years ago. Number 2, NIL is a right and a law and is therefore not part of the NCAA.
