It is a shame Jack would not bow out gracefully

His arrogance got the better of him. An old adage applies here, "He cut off his nose to spite his face". Jack missed the opportunity for a great send off. For a man with no hobbies or outside interests, where does he go from here?

How was he supposed to go out?

Jack knows that he is a good baseball coach and he thinks that he is the one to turn it around. I would be more upset with someone who is such a competitor to go in to the ADs office and say "nope. can't do it."

Coach Leggett was a great coach, whose strength of character would not allow him to back down from his belief that he could still turn the program around. Jack refused to bow to tremendous political and public pressure to resign, take a hefty settlement, and have a day in his honor. This man had the courage to stand up for his convictions, and he wasn't going to allow others to change his mind. We all should admire any man who is not swayed by the winds of controversy, political correctness and conventional wisdom.

Well darn, I thought it was at least semi-subtle, lol! Really, I do admire Jack for going out the way he wanted, and on his own terms.

what you call "strength of character" I call arrogance. To me Jack always thought he was the smartest man in the room. He constantly went against all baseball wisdom to go his way. I guess he thought he was Gibbs with an infallible gut. Maybe he should have made some coaching changes and in the end said coaches are out of a job. Anyway, today is not our finest hour. I am looking forward to what the future brings and will be in my spot come next February.

You don't think jack was doing everything he could to turn this team around? Why would he quit? Why would any competitor just quit when something isn't going right? If I was jack i wouldn't quit either. Even after the last 5 years of this slide the baseball team was on, that would make me want to work even harder, even longer to make things right. And I guarantee u that is jacks attitude also. That's rediculous to ask "why did he not just bow out gracefully."
I do agree that whatever jack was doing was not working, and I'm glad to hear we are going in another direction. But I also think nobody was working harder than jack last season to turn things around.

hearing.
I would agree that some of the changes D-Rad wanted him to make last year didn't occur, and that when the results were less than optimal, Leggett pretty much painted himself into a corner.
Either way he'll land on his feet, as will the staff.
