Alcohol at games next year

9

Sep 10, 2024, 10:27 AM

Clemson has decided to serve alcohol at next years games.

This will take ‘ family’ out if the game day experience. I hope there are enough dissenting voice to reverse this decision.

Close Gamecock fan stated it is the worst decision their University made and it is the number one reason they stop taking their grandkids to the game. We hate Clemson, but please do not let them serve alcohol… you will regret it!

At what price do we place on the Clemson Family Experience?

I am bringing my grandson to a game this year. I am glad to not have to deal with that this time. If I want that I'd go to pro football.

Give me a break. You can get pass outs anytime go drink and come back. Might as well make money off of it and stay in control by cutting off sales by the end of the 3rd qtr.

Yeah. My problem is I don't enjoy wearing other people's beer. And it happens at just about every game I go to where alcohol is served.

Minor league baseball stadiums and most arenas serve beer. I don't see the big deal. People don't stop going to Applebee's because they serve alcohol. Even the Holy Rollers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heres the study results.

2

Sep 10, 2024, 10:40 AM

Conclusion

There was a decrease in alcohol-related EMS calls on home game days in 2021, although the result was not statistically significant. In-stadium alcohol sales had no significant impact on the frequency or proportion of alcohol-related ED visits. The reason for this outcome is unclear, but it is possible that fans drank less at tailgate parties knowing they could consume more once the game started. Long lines and a two-beverage limit at stadium concessions may have kept patrons from consuming excessively. The results of this study may inform similar institutions regarding the safe implementation of alcohol sales during mass-gathering events.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People already drink at their tailgates and come into the stadium. Also, can't

2

Sep 10, 2024, 10:41 AM

you still leave at halftime and reenter the stadium? I'm guessing beer and wine sold in the stadium will be quite expensive, so you may not notice an appreciable difference.

German-Irish-and Italian brands. With The German
Brands brewed with under the Purity Law of 1516 being my go to… I can forecast the line line up for next year.
Bud light yea! So underwhelming and maybe Modelo
As the “premium import”
A watered down coke would be better taste wise.
No offense to the US breweries. I will say that the original Michelob was a very good domestic beer back in the day.
Point being I’ll not be shopping for a beer at the games.

Here's the deal. We put alcohol in the stadium and fans will stay. Otherwise they will head back to their tailgates and we will lose our "12th man" in the second half. I don't like it. I'm against it. I hate having my kids around that environment, but I understand why.

You have my vote, where do I place my mark. I've bever had my personal feeling changed about selling alcohol inside of DV, and here is why, up until my back injury started to make my trips to DV to be more than I could take, I had already been to more FB game in DV than I can count, but I do know that it's been an awful lot of them. With those many visit I've seen more than my share of drunk people wobbling around at the tailgating in about every parking area close to the stadium and I always prayed that the tickets that I had bought that none of those drunk folks that I saw wobbling around was sitting nowhere close to where my seat were going to be bc I never had the same seats bc when folks were allowed to sell their tickets around the stadium that's where I would buy.

But when they stopped everybody from selling their tickets around the stadium, I would buy my tickets on the back road coming in from that really nice black guy that was always in the same place with a double hand full of tickets to sell, and if he had section UM tickets he usually always saved those for me bc I would always give him a good tip when he had UG, UF, UE, or UD tickets bc any of those section were good seats IMO, but through all my years of going to games, I was never seated close to any of those obnoxious drunks in DV, Amen. I've always believed that alcohol wasn't a good idea with sports fans at a live game, and I still believe that...

battleship. So I'm not sure if selling beer is going to make that much difference. I have my own convictions about it, but I'm not going to condemn a person that wants to have a drink, or two. I've never seen alcohol bring out the best in a person, but I've certainly seen it bring out their worst. In a crowd of 80 thousand + I wouldn't think it a good idea. I've seen some pretty rough fights break out in sporting and other events, where if alcohol wasn't involved, they probably never would have happened. If I had a say in the matter, I'd say no to the idea.

What I contribute to the Clemson University Foundation per year is a drop in the bucket and I know my small contribution will not be missed. But, I made up my mind years ago based on the rapid growth at Clemson, policies regarding alcohol sales at other schools, and just plain nostalgia, that if Clemson does any one of the following, my contributions will cease: 1)Start construction of a building on Bowman Field; 2}begin selling alcohol at athletic events; OR 3)terminate Dabo Swinney.

No, I'm not a Bible beating whatever, I'm Anglican (former Episcopalian). I very much enjoy cold beer, Woodford on the rocks, and I've had my share of both since the 9th grade (I'm 74, do the math) but alcohol at college ball games is crossing a personal right vs. wrong line. The ONLY reason it may happen is the wrong reason.....MONEY. Far too many downsides, in my humble opinion.
