Where does this MBB team rank w/ the Clemson All-Time bests?

Obviously, there's a lot to be written but I've been extremely impressed with our team this year. We've had some tough L's but have mainly ended on the W side of the tough game column.
-Bill Foster's 79-80 team was 23-9 and made the Elite 8 -Cliff Ellis 86-87 team was 25-6 but lost in the 1st round of the NCAAT -Cliff Ellis 89-90 team was 26-9, 1st in ACC, and made it to the Sweet Sixteen -Rick Barnes 97-97 team was 23-9, and made it to Sweet Sixteen
Big Bad Brad has had two teams who've done well in the tourney...
This 24/25 team is 23-5 and has three winnable games left in the regular season.
We have an all-time top 10 Scorer in Chase Hunter.
IMO anything less than the Sweet Sixteen is a failure on our part.
What do y'all think?

Chase Hunter has a pretty legitimate shot at being the in the top 5 of points all time. Granted, he will have played over 20 games more than anyone else on the list...

Overall....top 5 wouldn't be a stretch but like others have pointed out we gotta continue to make some noise to put it in stone. Probably Brad's best team yet - higher ceiling than last year if I'm being honest.
I definitely feel like we should make the Sweet 16 but I need to see where we land and what the road looks like too. Likely, we'll need some breaks to make it like last year. Honestly, ALL teams need the right breaks to make it deep into the tourney so I don't feel like it's a Clemson-only thing. However, I feel like if we bring our A-game like last year we can go the distance with almost any team.

season needs to finish, see what happens and then determine that.
Clemson controls their destiny, let us see what this season has in store based on how they finish up the season and play in the tournament.
ACC and NCAA tournament will tell the story of what this team is really all about. With this talent, need to see a nice post-season run.
Go Tigers!!

Was spoiled as a freshman with the 86-87 team, and maybe those teams and our competition were stronger, including the Rick Barnes stretch, but relative to the here and now this is as solid a team as ever.
For pretty much any Tiger fan, cautious optimism in hoops is about as high a level as you can earnestly reach. I am as cautiously optimistic as ever this season.
Go Tigers!

I came in in ‘87 and did get to be present for the regular season championship win against the Dukies. That crazy loss to UCONN halted a run by maybe the best team we’ve had. Cliff put together some of our better teams.

If that happens it could be top 10 most disappointing

our 97-98 team. That team, coached by Rick Barnes, featured Greg Buckner, Terrell McIntyre, Harold Jamison, etc., but finished just 18-14 with a 7-9 ACC record. We were a 6 seed and were upset by 11 seed Western Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
It was our most disappointing season in my opinion, based on preseason expectations and talent level.

It was disappointing. I recall Villanova started hacking our bigs in the 2nd half anytime they were down low to keep from getting layups or dunks, which was not a bad strategy since their FT shooting was subpar.
I'm not sure if we would have made the Final Four though given that Kansas would have been waiting in the Sweet Sixteen, and they won it all that year.

We have only had two teams make the Elite Eight. While both were great, last year's team had a much tougher road to the final 8 in terms of who we played.
I think this year's team is better. We are dominating our schedule in a way that we haven't really done before, not just in terms of our overall and conference record but also in how we are winning. We have beaten all but two of our conference opponents by double digits. That is incredible, even if the ACC is not what it used to be.
I believe we will finish this season with our best regular season ever. We are well positioned to make some noise in the ACC Tournament as well as the NCAA Tournament. This is such a fun time!

Great q. Wow, and really tough for this year! I'd say I'd personally rather see an Elite 8 Appearance > ACCT victory; But I'd rather win the ACCT if we lose in the Sweet 16.

The team that got beat at the buzzer by uconn in 1990 in the tourney was my all time favorite team. I cried when they got robbed of that win. I think that team was good enough to go to the final four.

Given that is a very strong analytic, I'd recommend comparing SRS from each of these teams. Everybody has their favorite team, favorite coach & favorite memories of each season. I personally have always gravitated to the 97 team that came within a whisker of making the final eight, but last year's team was special and gave us a ride that we ALL enjoyed.
By using SRS, it takes our biases away, and grades on a pretty equal scale.
Data was pulled from..... https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/clemson/men/
If the season ended today, this squad would rank second in SRS historically.

Probably, but the guard play was spotty at times. At least they won two tourney games. Loss to SC at the end of the season hurt’s their streetcred.

If they played today, I don’t think the current team would be in the top 5 of all Clemson teams. Especially the era around Larry Nance, Billy Williams, Horace Grant, Dale Davis, Elden Campbell, etc. I would place my money on those teams. The physicality and inside game was special back then. The timing matters as it is my opinion that the current era of college BB (especially in the ACC) is nowhere near as good as it was back then. Our record is enhanced by playing a bunch of bad teams. All of that said, I do think this is a good team - but not to the level and play of back then.
Best team? No. Possibly best results - yes.

Not playing a bunch of OOC cupcakes helps the credibility. That and the ability to drain the three. Of those guys has had great guards, it would be a different story.
Forrest, Cash and Howling were good, but the Hunters and JZ are better. Davis would gobble up every rebound, but the triples would be raining. Plus this team can hit their free throws.
But again, at the time, it was amazing.

Winning 6 games in the big dance is hard.... I can think of many many talented teams that lived and died by the 3 point shot that just could not string together 6 games of good outside shooting.
This team has a great balance and has shown ability to win games by the 3, and to win them inside if we are having a bad outside shooting day. Defensively, we are very solid.
I think this team will go deep.... Obviously, luck of the draw and who you play when has a part, but I believe this team believes and will make noise. Not only in the ACCT, but will make the elite 8 with a chance to make the final four.
Go Tigers !!!
