No.
Look at the two games we lost and tell me how many points the offense scored when it mattered.
Yeah, we gave up yards against the Citadel… but nobody wins on yards (cc Clemson V Duke last year).
We’re playing alright on D. It’s not championship level but I don’t feel like our defense has let us down this year like the offense (in our two losses) has.

That being said, our offense is much improved and I’m excited to see how they play against the gameterds.

Could our defense have bailed out our offense in the Louisville game? Absolutely.
Our offense bailed out our defense vs pitt.

Since our talent level has decreased as well as talented depth, it is hard to say if Wes is the problem. We can’t tell where he would stand with the defenses we had in championship years.

Our defensive rankings have DECLINED steadily since he’s been here. Too many times our players look lost, out of position and not set as the opposing team snaps the ball. Given our abysmal failures with the running game D, Carolina will certainly try to run the ball down our throat.

...you better be elite at HS recruiting. Ideally, we sprinkle a little from the portal and be elite at HS recruiting. We do neither ATM.
What is beyond a shadow of doubt is roster management/talent acquisition has gone downhill. No where near the talented depth we used to have/needed to be elite. Not sure why some have a hard time admitting that.
We play with a no margin for error at all. By our choice too....not due to anything an opposing coach/school is doing to us.

Watching the Wes defense reminds me a lot of the Kevin Steele defense.

Opponent QBs running untouched and completing 20 yard passes to a wide open receiver on 3rd & 18 for a 1st down in the red zone.
This team is capable of being blown out in a West Virginia style Orange Bowl blowout.

For the amount of talent we have, we should be performing at a much higher level. This year’s results are significantly below what we have averaged over the last several years.
I think the responsibility for this has to start at the top, so not sure how you look past Wes on this one. Developing the potential of high talent prospects is the core responsibility of a DC and his staff.

Our offense has been the problem for YEARS not the defense. If it weren't for Goodwin's defense last season we wouldn't have won more than 2 games
The offense SUCKS when they come up against a good team. Less than 7 points in 4 qtrs vs GA and less than 7 points in 3 1/2 quarters vs Louisville
Coots put up 35 on Venables a few weeks ago. Wes is probably going to do better than that but it won't matter if Riley breaks out his sideline screen playbook and runs HB draw on 3rd and long

If this year's offense had been on last year's team, and last year's defense had been on this year's team, we might have been much happier with both years.

Defensive talent was alot deeper last year, Goodwins bend but don't break defense won't work in college if you don't have nasty pass rushers, there's too many mismatches in college. Secondly a major issue with Goodwin is he just doesn't have the guys playing with any intensity, intensity and effort make up for bad plays. Wiggins and Trotter were intense and high effort guys. outside Parker, Woods, and Brown I don't see any intensity, mostly a business as normal attitude.
Id also argue what we are seeing is Goodwin is not a Recruiter, Venables guys are trickling out and it shows.

Sorry, I disagree. His defenses are getting worse every year, and with the current trajectory, they’ll be a bad defense next year. We have to stop the bleeding. They’re pretty good in the red zone, but they give up to many chunk plays. And don’t get me started on 3rd and long!

It's not all Wes, some of it is just the Football IQ of players in situational football. Blown coverages are usually on the player, LBs not hitting the right gap, over-pursuing, bad angles, miss tackles. A lot of drives kept alive by dumb penalties on 3rd down...especially the grabbing by Terrell. The players have to be smarter and get off the #### field. They just need to get back to being relentless and blowing up the line of scrimmage.

Not to mention a good chunk of points given up have came in garbage time....even tho that is aggravating. The Louisville game was a product of the offense putting them back on the field every 2 mins. Good drives by the offense will always help the defense and limit their snaps as well.

It's not BS, they aren't robots. Miss tackles and mistakes in the game do fall on the players at some point. To say miss tackles fall on the coaches and not the players at this level of the game is crazy....Carter has missed tons of tackles, you think he needs to go back to peewee and learn the proper technique of how to tackle? The Football 101 and basics should already be installed in their head, if they the coaches keep having to teach the fundamentals at this stage in their career....then what are they doing here. The coaching falls on the playbook and schemes, I fault Wes for not blitzing enough and bringing enough pressure. But its on the players to study and know their assignments and not make silly mistakes in key situations to keep drives alive.

That's insult to the intellectual ability of the players. Your'e calling them "dumb jocks" that cannot understand Mr. Goodwin's Superior mind. That's BS and you know it. Goodwin is a DC that got a break because of being the HC's friend. No other Major college would touch his as a DC. Send him packing!!!!

He’s just Not a personality that recruits Want to play for. Maybe he’s a mastermind But he’ll never have guys clamoring to play for him. With our culture, that’s a problem. You can’t “outsmart” every team. You need athletes. Also, coaching after Venables has to be tough

I think that he is on defense. He knows what to do, but not how to do it. Linebacker play has gone downhill. Carter has all but disappeared. As far as recruiting, we need to fix the decommitment problem. If we had the five that decommited, we would be talking about a great recruiting class.

Wes Goodwin IS the defensive problem. Anybody that knows good defensive football can recognize that. The players are all crunched up at the line of scrimmage, no pass rush and no one is covering the secondary. Once the opposing back gets through the line, he free the run all the way, as Citadel did a lot. Goodwin needs to be nurse-maided by the HC and defensive aides until the season is over, so he doesn't blow things up. Watch him so that he doesn't kill Clemson chances. Give him the pink slip afterward. If Clemson reaches the ACCGC (by a Miami loss), They still have to deal with an SMU team that can score. Goodwin is not equipped to stop that team or Miami for that matter. He may be a nice guy, but he can't coach defense. FIRE Wes Goodwin!!!!

Our issue right now is injuries on defense...many of those escapes would have been thwarted by Woodaz...Brown is still bird dogging a lot! He will learn...Dabo has been resting lots of folks...SC will have to beat us...saw 2 of their games and was not impressed...made juvenile mistakes like the TAMU Aggies or LSU!
