Many of us, myself included, are pretty excited about the upcoming 2025 season. We have our star QB back, as well as a stable of highly touted wide receivers. We also have an offensive line coach going into his second year with us who made improvements in our OL play in year one, as well as a new defensive coordinator who can hopefully get more out of a talented but underachieving defense.
However, I must admit that my enthusiasm is tempered a bit by some recent trends that are concerning, such as:
-In 2024, we were just 1-3 against ranked teams. This included an 0-3 record against the SEC. -We are just 8-7 against top 25 opponents over the last 4 years. -We are 0-5 against our last top 5 opponents.
However, looking at our 2025 schedule, it is definitely favorable. We get our likely strongest opponent, LSU, in Death Valley. We also get FSU, SMU, and Duke at home. It is also very likely that we will be favored in all 12 of our regular season games, which suggests that at least 10 regular season wins represents a reasonable worst case scenario assuming that we stay relatively healthy and players play as expected.
A good regular season and another ACC championship would put us back in the playoffs, thanks to the automatic bid. This would ensure us another CFP berth regardless of our ranking by the playoff committee.
Despite the excitement surrounding 2025, I do have concerns about 2026 and beyond. My biggest concern represents our talent level, especially as it relates to the truly elite teams or even teams in the top 10. Losing stars such as Klubnik will potentially hurt, depending on who his replacement is. Moreover, our overall talent level seems to be declining.
Per 247Sports, our 2025 class is ranked 26th, which is down from 11th in both 2023 and 2024, 10th in 2022, and 5th in 2021. As a program that prides itself on being a developmental program, this is concerning.
Although it is great that we are now using the transfer portal to address needs, 247Sports ranks our 2025 transfer portal class just 104th. That isn't going to cut it if we aren't going to consistently have elite recruiting classes as well as excellent coaching. Even if these recent coaching hires by Dabo are as good as they appear, even the best development in the world won't be enough to overcome a lack of enough Jimmy's and Joe's.
My recommendation, and something I am going to try to do, is live in the moment and enjoy the 2025 season. Worrying about 2026 won't change anything. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. Go Tigers!

This is where she will sit back for a while, then chime back in later trolling responses, which will in turn fuel more of the same within. Expect the inevitable 'cult' references and other anti-Clemson fan digs and dings upcoming, and more animosity towards hoops than would ever be warranted without this troll driving the wedge.

Dabo Derangement Syndrome
The best coach in Clemson history and one of the proven best in the business.
Ok, so we hit a lull for known reasons and dropped from #2 in P5 wins to #6, but we are still one of the better programs in the country when you look at the big picture.
I see tons of talent. We needed a QB. Check. We needed tightened up technique and more intensity on defense. Check.
We had a great incoming class in 2024. 11th in composite. Guys like Sammy, Wesco and Moore, are program changers. There’s tons of talent coming through the ranks.
We had a solid 25 recruiting class by avg of player rankings, albeit a small class due to nearly unseen roster retention. Lots of quality players here that will definitely contribute to continued success.
For 2026, it’s 22 and we have a ton of time to build that class. For sure I see in Tnet news everyday that we’re in on numerous 4 and 4 stars. We are all in agreement that we should see a nice jump in the program in 2025 which will also grow the ‘26 class.
There is sum of talent at least equivalent to the 2016 national championship team, and the expected boost on the field will continue to ramp that sum up.
Plus we have one of the best staffs in the country. Great coaches on both sides of the ball and guys who love working hard under Dabo. He’s one of the very best head coaches in the game and quickly becoming one of the best coaches in the history of the game.
With defense being shored up, we could really make a move in 2025. We are primed for a great season with a plethora of talent coming through.
Considered we just won another conference championship, made the playoffs and showed well (save defense), all in all I think we’re clearly on the upswing.

Why shouldn’t Clemson have honored the tragic loss of Noah Harvin’s mom just as we did the tragic loss of Bryan Bresee’s sister?
Are you suggesting that only star players are worthy of being honored, whereas mere equipment managers aren’t?
If so, it makes the gray out for Ella seem more like a publicity stunt that a way of genuinely grieving with one of our own and truly raising awareness.
P.S. It’s Bryan, not Brian.
P.P.S. It’s Bresees, not Breezes.

Let’s compare football and basketball. I’ll let you fill in the basketball superlatives.
Football finished 14th in 2024/25. Expected to be better in 2025.
6th in wins since 2021.
2nd in wins during the playoff era.
2nd in playoff appearances.
2nd in playoff wins.
9 conference championships.
14 years with a postseason win. The only program to do that.
14 years with 9+ wins. One of only two teams on that pace.
Let’s compare and project Clemson basketball. Let’s face it - the league is down and we should be expected to have deep runs in the ACCT and NCAAT. It will be a huge letdown if we don’t play for the ACC championship and make another elite 8 appearance. This is our best chance - maybe ever.

to place that much pressure and high expectations on CBB and the team in light of Clemson's historical negligibility in men's hoops.
With cautious optimism expect the worst and hope for the best.

My question is….can you say you are truly satisfied w the results below and are those same results worth $11.5M a year for dabo? I think not🤷♂️
-In 2024, we were just 1-3 against ranked teams. This included an 0-3 record against the SEC. -We are just 8-7 against top 25 opponents over the last 4 years. -We are 0-5 against our last top 5 opponents. -We have lost the last 2 out of 3 games to coots

Most notably, our incredible run from 2015-2020.
However, that contract wasn't merely a reward for a job well done, but also carried with it an expectation of future results. Dabo has not performed nearly to that standard the last several years in my opinion.
This past season was better than the season before, and hopefully that improvement will continue into 2025. I believe it will.

I asked you this before and you declined to respond. How do you know the details of Dabo’s contract, in particular what the future expectations were? And what the basis for his increase was? Or are you just saying things that cannot be verified to further your agenda against Dabo?

for the expectation to be that you don’t come anywhere close to maintaining that performance in the years that follow.
I don’t have an agenda against Dabo. I have an agenda for Clemson football. We devote way to o much money, time, and effort toward Clemson football for us to have fallen as far as we have the last few years.
Perhaps you and some others are fine paying our staff among the highest in the country to be consistently outside the top 10, not close to elite anymore, but I’m not.

Brownell is now either the 1st or 2nd highest paid coach in the ACC (only Scheyer is unknown) and yet has never even appeared in an ACC tournament final. So let’s see you reconcile that based on this standard.

At what point does Brownell have to achieve at his salary level. Dabo has to win a national championship. You’ve been bashing him since the LSU game. At what point does Brownell have to outperform his ACC peers whom he is paid better than?

Then show that. Quit trolling all the time. Act like you belong here. The constant digs at football only makes people attack Brownell and his past shortcomings. I haven’t said anything negative about him, at least intentionally, since I said I would stop if he made Sweet Sixteen last year.
I was a basketball fan first before football. It was my first love. I know our history is awful. The ACC is the worst it has been in 50 years. As a basketball fan, you know that’s true. I hope we win it all and am fine with Brad if he keeps this up. A few bad losses happen to everyone. I am fine with that, just want consistency

I have one HUGE caveat to all your Josh Pate regurgitated opinion, go look at the composite talent rankings. Clemson sits comfortably in the top 5 and isn’t far from the top.
Remember when the Christian Wilkins recruiting class was ranked barely in the top twenty and the four years later rerank was second? Not to mention tied for the winningest four years in college football history. What you’re failing to consider is development and the ability to recruit players that fit HIS system.
Our football issues have been more of a lack of experienced proven winners at position coaching and coordinator. Not a Jimmy’s and Joe’s issue.
Yes, the 2025 class was a bust. As far as overall talent ranking of each player it ranks sixth. The portal and NIL kinda broke that class. However, the addition of three solid transfers and 2026 class are going to more than make up for the loss of several studs that seemed to be solid commits until bag men stole them away.
Clemson Football is in MUCH better shape than ANY sports at Clemson. Light years beyond the basketball program which is a perennial no show in meaningful post season appearances. Yes, I’ve been one of the loudest fire the Brad voices in the room. We would have been better served with a proven winner hire than a 16 year learn on the job coach. Granted, he appears to have turned the corner and learned to win the big ones. He seems to have lessened the bone headed head scratching losses that shouldn’t happen. He seems to have learned to evaluate the roster better and not pull the hot hand as much anymore. He still does at times and maybe he’ll learn that as well. The last two seasons have earned him the right to continue to learn on the job. My worry is he has peaked and this is as good as it gets. Because he has only ever won three conference titles at mid major schools and only finished ranked in the top twenty five a handful of times in 23 years. He’s also a .668 lifetime winner. Not so great. Again, all that has improved and he seems to be climbing the hill. However, anything short of an NCAA championship is a failure. Overall. If he can’t take us there we need the coach that can. Dabo has proven he can. The Brad is yet to bring us a conference championship. Even Ellis won the regular season.
A little poke back at your poke.

Imagine that still no answer to my questions🤔
My question is….can you say you are truly satisfied w the results below and are those same results worth $11.5M a year for dabo? I think not🤷♂️
-In 2024, we were just 1-3 against ranked teams. This included an 0-3 record against the SEC. -We are just 8-7 against top 25 opponents over the last 4 years. -We are 0-5 against our last top 5 opponents. -We have lost the last 2 out of 3 games to coots

When you isolate just those specific results, no I’m not satisfied, but there is more to consider. Overall, I’m very pleased with Debo’s results, but still wouldn’t pay 11.5M to any coach. With that said, who would you pay 11.5 M to and/or what would you pay for Dabo?

But dinner is not a meal specified by time, rather specified by size. Dinner is considered the largest meal of the day, and can be mid-day or evening.

When someone does raise points that you cannot dispute or you don’t like, you call them disrespectful. Below is the most scathing part of a series of posts I made towards you.
“That’s your prerogative. Have at it. But it doesn’t carry over to your other coach. I’ve heard him say several times it’s players’ fault. And how about the allegations from the scout team player? I’m guessing to you it’s just sour grapes.
It could be. But you sure do bend over backwards for him and reach REALLY deep to burn Dabo. Just be consistent”
So, there is no reason to bring up points and counterpoints with you. Your head is buried, your mind made up. You’re not interested in alternative views or the possibility that they are valid.

Are you referring to my statement about you? I’m only going by evidence. I bring up a benign statement about Brad and the best you can come up with is that I’m disrespectful. That’s almost as bad as saying “I know you are but what am I?” Which is exactly what you’re doing with this post.

Be 100 honest: do you want to discuss basketball with others without Brown (ell) colored glasses on? For eons now any and all criticism of the guy has been responded to by you with nothing but excuses and blame on money.
So, let’s take that as a true factor. I’ll agree. Somewhat.
Now, is the same being given to Dabo? He dipped into the portal for needs. He’s changing. Yes, you give props to him sort of, but then back away with “ifs” and “buts”.
You had a multi post problem with him saying he’s never failed at anything. Even with the myriad of people out there that explain that viewpoint as being valid. It’s a very popular belief to think that being a part of failure, learning from that failure and moving on is a part of growth. It’s a mindset. Actually one I don’t really agree with myself. But I’m not the one to say that it hasn’t worked for Dabo. Nor are you, I can assure you.
Further, I’ve been clear that I agree, or did agree, with you on some of your points regarding Dabo. So insisting I can’t discuss it is just not true. Seems like you’re conflating the fringe cultists with ANYONE that dares to disagree with you.

Is pretty good. Could be better, but it could be way worse. Dabo is working out the issues we all saw for years. It's the basketball team that we should worry about. They're having a good year, but Brownell will have to earn every bit of his pay to replicate this year in the foreseeable future. Here's hoping.

Even though what you stated is the absolute truth, some will hate you for saying it, and no it isn't fair and it's sad but it is the truth... Regardless of what some will say stars do matter, and some will see those Nine 3 star players that signed as if you are the person that recruited and signed them to hurt Dabo and his FB program...

I think it is reasonable to acknowledge the improvement we saw this year, seeing the potential for more in 2025, but also having concern about 2026 and beyond.
I provided reasons for the short term optimism as well as the longer term concerns.

Plus, Brad has made it farther than Dabo has in this era, and did so with far fewer advantages.
But hey, if it makes you feel better to go back to last decade, you do that.

Well, dang. I had some counterpoints and also a few 'critical' comments in your OP I could agree with, and probably would have posted.
But the full bevvy of this thread and arguments/discussions raised within (notably deaths of team members' family, TNet Quality Content Award, and "current era of college athletics") has lead me to the conclusion that meaningful dialogue relating to Clemson Football is not your actual goal.
Therefore, I'll defer any further interaction, wish you the best, and close with this for some brevity:
"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul".
