Is there any way an undefeated Army team gets left out of the CFP ?

vs. a 3-loss SEC team ?
The backlash would be tremendous I would think.

They would have to beat ND to finish undefeated

I definitely believe that any undefeated team with a good win like that SHOULD get into a 12-team playoff, but you never know. Really, any undefeated team period should get into a 12-team playoff, but I'm hesitant to say that the committee would agree.

Army will have to defeat Notre Dame to go undefeated.

If Army beats Notre Dame, they'll vault up the rankings. As an undefeated team with a marquee win, I would assume they'd move up so high that they'd overtake Boise State for the top Group of 5 spots.
What would be interesting, though, is the automatic bids go to the "5 highest conference champions". If Army somehow goes undefeated and Boise State (who was ranked 12th last week - one spot ahead of SMU) wins out, it's conceivable that both Boise State and Army finish ahead of either the ACC champion or the Big 12 champion (if BYU loses a game). In that case, the ACC or Big 12 could be entirely left out of the playoff.

Florida State was left out last year {and I'm certainly note a seminole fan ) but could definitely see Army be left out which would be a bad look nationally just on face value.

If Boise State continues to win then they would get the G5 bid. They aren’t going to an undefeated Army in over a 2-loss Georgia, TN, TX A&M, Ohio State etc. just isn’t going to happen.

If they're in the highest ranked 5 conferences, they're in.
If they're in the Top 7 of the at large rankings, they're in.
Assuming they go 12-0.

Yes. An undefeated Army team will get left out, one way or the other.

If there is a choice between Army and a 3 loss P2 team, Army loses.

A 2-3 loss ACC champion getting ranked behind Army and BSU and being left out. For me this would frankly be hilarious. It’s also very plausible if SMU loses another game then beats Miami in Charlotte.
To paraphrase a Dave Chappelle skit, “Jim Phillips I hope all the bad things in this sporting world happen to you and only you!”

automatically in. If Army or BSU whichever gets the auto is rated higher than the ACC champ then they would get a top 4 seed, the ACC champ would still be in. They just wouldn't have a bye. They would either be seeded according to their ranking or 12th, whichever is highest. This doesn't just apply to the ACC, it applies to all the conferences so if BYU gets upset in the title game by say a ISU or KSU the same thing would be facing them. Same for SEC, B10 though less likely to happen since they can lose multiple games and still be above other conf champs with same or less losses.
the lower of Army and BSU would have to essentially be in at least the top 11 to get an at-large.

Nope, it was widely assumed that the power 4 champs would all be ranked in the top 5 overall champions, but there literally nothing spelling out the Power 4 champs are explicitly guaranteed. Guess they underestimated just how bad the ACC could be
“The selection rules feature automatic Playoff bids for the five highest-ranked conference champions, not the automatic bids for the conference champions of the five biggest conferences, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams overall.”

Army can be the Hawaii of the initial 12-team playoff

Similar to undefeated Hawaii playing and being humiliated by UGA about a decade ago, a #12 Army seed could play a #5 UGA or Ole Miss or Bama with the same result.
