Is there a deportation counter? ICE nowsays their site will update quarterly -

I've stopped seeing much news about it - other than the ICE head was demoted a couple of days ago. I'm still waiting for the millions to be sent home.

Likewise, I'm waiting for any budget cuts that will be more than, say, 1/2% of the total budget. They say they've cut around 80 billion, but most of that can't be realized. Doge is pretty much going to dry up in the next month unless they have A LOT more folks to really rework government, but that will cost A LOT more than they are saving...the 19 year olds don't work cheap. Feels like Doge will dry up soon as the cuts become smaller and smaller. Cutting biologists in Pisgah? Not really helpful to the goal which is, maybe, or maybe not, to balance the budget (not really sure).

So far (only a month in), I'm not impressed with the rollout.

They haven’t been able to deport people at the same rate as Biden. It’s hard to understand why. If you make announcements that you are coming after people and blast the news into all types of media, wouldn’t you expect your targets to come out and surrender to ICE instead of find a good place to disappear?

I struggle with the debate over who is dumber: Trump or the people who voted for him.

It also might be that not as many people are coming. Who knows?

His promise was to deport millions who were already here. But not as many are coming for sure. There was a big surge after title 42 expired and it naturally tapered off.

We should have deported his grandparents for lying about their country of origin, a lie the Trumps kept going until they finally got busted around 1990.

Well as we all know they got rid of the acting ICE deputy director because he had been around too long and understood the laws, etc.

So looks like they may be appointing this person . Former executive director of South Dakota GOP.

Border crossings are down 90% in the first month, which was a bigger priority than deportations since if they are streaming in you'll never get anywhere no matter how many you deport. The guy in charge of deportations was just demoted because they weren't moving fast enough so maybe some holders from the last admin were intentionally slow rolling the agenda, which sounds like something they'd do. And lefties really need to make up their minds. Either the cuts Trump have made are draconian, destructive and will ruin our country, and the world, or they are tiny and irrelevant and you aren't impressed. Pick a lane please because you can't have it both ways. Also you're just upset because the cuts that have been made have been popular due to the obvious waste and fraud involved. You'd much rather Trump cut SS or literally anything else so you can start screaming about how he's gonna kill grandma.

Doubt they are qualified to pick lettuce.

Just curious, how are border crossings measured?

How are we able to tell that they're down 90%? Or were you referring to legal crossings through checkpoints?

Genuinely curious about this. I would think many of the illegal border crossings would go unnoticed, hence the wall and razorwire in moats, etc.

Well, the "encounters" numbers obviously are inaccurate

Because if you cut down (or raise) the presence of border patrol agents, then you can manipulate how many illegals are "encountered". Boost law enforcement along the border, "encounters" go up, withdraw them, they go down. So not a really accurate measure IMHO.

Kind of like medical data. Positive flu cases went up this winter their usual amount, and these are lab-confirmed tests. BUT, 5+ times as many people were hospitalized, and by any real measure this year was FAR worse than last year, or any other previous year. But look at the numbers of confirmed flu cases (positive lab tests) and most years look roughly the same. Look at hospital numbers and the years vary much more.

Truth is all they can do is guestimate, just like with a virus (irony probably for some in here).

The one thing we can control, the easiest, is the transfer of dollars. The fact that is never mentioned, nor tried, well, that tells you the real story.

I agree with you here. They should have been either taxing the hell out of, or eliminating the transfers for decades.

doing squat. Cuts to SS, Medicare, and Medicaide will be required in addition to some reorganization. The ticky-tack cuts aren't really getting rid of all the "fraud" that's out there. As an aside - I have a problem when they keep saying that "fraud" abounds...ineptitude, maybe, but intentional wrong doing, probably not so much. Musk needs to go away unless he is ready to be there for years to reorganize.

And I only am peeved at the deportations because of Trump stating MILLIONS will be sent back. I just keep waiting for bus loads to pass by.

Maybe things smooth out, maybe not. But right now our government looks very suspect. Oh yeah...and the stock market appears to be taking note, inflation is very sticky, and Putin is getting ready to hit a royal flush.

The firings are harmful to the federal government's ability to properly function, but they will have almost no impact on the budget deficit. The salaries and benefits of all 2.3 million federal civilian employees only add up to 4% of the federal budget. USAID spending was less than 1% of the budget.
