What it all boils down to..

What it all boils down to is as Clemson fans, do we want a player in the program that is going to dedicate himself to making himself as well as the football program, or Clemson athletics in general, better. Or do we want a guy or girl, that is going to come in for a season because Clemson offered a lot of NIL money, develop them to be great, and then leave as soon as someone offers them more money? The more money you offer these kids today, the more you are going to have the next one tomorrow. As much as I would love for us to have the best players, I don't want a hired player who will jump ship because another school back doored us. Once a tiger, always a tiger is hard to apply to player now because of NIL and the transfer portal. Look at the baseball team. We lost a guy after one season who possibly would have been the top guy to Tennessee right after we lost to them, because they offered money. Pay for play doesn't always make a good team.

Every school is dealing with the effects of NIL and the Portal in many sports. In 2023, to say once a Tiger, Tarheel, or Buckeye, always a Tiger, Tarheel or Buckeye is a thing of the past but that does not diminish the contribution the young men and women have on the school nor the school's effect on them. NIL and the Portal are part of sports today and will continue to be.

I don’t think fans of Clemson football are enjoying the current product as much as the previous one from the 2011-2020 era. Give or take. If it’s just inexperienced coaching that have failed developing players, get rid of them. If it’s really the portal hurting depth, and the refusal to take back from the portal, do it. Whatever the problem is, I think Dabo will fix it. If he doesn’t, you may see Bowden era results or maybe Dabo retires.
The FSU game is setting up to be a battle of different ways of building a team/program. It’s going to be fascinating.
